Houston Shonen Jump TCG Championship Series Tournament
Metagame Staff

It’s all over, and after a weekend filled with new cards, new decks, and new players, an old name has risen again to take another Shonen Jump Championship. Emon Ghaneian battled his way through over 400 players in order to once again climb to the top and win his third Shonen Jump Championship. He first had to go up against Oscar Hopkins and his Monarch/Phoenix deck, but he rose above the challenge and moved on to play Alex Martinez. Alex had just defeated Jonathan Moore’s Six Samurai deck, but he just couldn’t get by Emon’s Bazoo/Card Trooper deck despite having 3 main-decked Dimensional Fissures.

Next to go was Steven Arias whose draws just couldn’t handle the sheer amount of power that Emon’s deck was capable of producing, and soon he was on to the finals where he would face teammate and friend, Kris “Superman” Perovic. Kris fought bravely, but in the end he’ll have to wait a bit longer for his first SJC victory. SJC Houston has been a stellar event that will leave a lasting impact on the new format, and it will be exciting to see which ideas have changed or developed by the time SJC Columbus comes around. Until then, congratulations to Emon Ghaneian, SJC Houston Champion!

Day 2
Emon Ghaneian has won 2 Shonen Jump Championships and is looking for a third, while fellow Overdose member Kris Perovic is in his 4th Day 2 looking for his first win.
If Keanson Ye was excited at this point, he wasn’t showing it. It was all poker face all the time from Ye’s side of the table, and nothing Perovic could say was going to throw him off his game.
Overdose powerhouse Emon Ghaneian is playing a colorful Return deck, packing two copies of Skull Lair.
Both players just defeated difficult opponents in their Top 16 matches and are eager to take home the prize today. Keanson won the roll and elected to go first.
Both players, and one of the table judges, wanted to give a shout-out at the start of this match.
Adam Corn, representing Shuffle and Cut and Comic Odyssey, made waves here yesterday with his Gadget/Monarch deck complete with two copies of Shrink.
This was the first Day 2 appearance for both of these players, and one of them would be turning their Top 16 finish into a Top 8 finish.
Day 1
Both of these players have made Top 8 at multiple Jumps, 2 for Keanson and 3 for Holloway, and both players are looking to add yet another Day 2 to their list of accomplishments.
If today’s event is any indication, Strike of Neos is the set to go for if you’re looking for some hot tech.
Ricky Riles is from local Team GG, and he promised me before the event began that if he received a feature match he would either win big or lose in one of the most incredible ways imaginable.
This round’s feature pits Overdose superstar, Kris Perovic, against national Top 4 competitor, Steven Arias.
I mentioned at the beginning of the day that one of the decks to look out for during the event was The Six Samurai.
Jonathon Moore has been on my watch list all day today because of his excellent performance thus far with a Six Samurai build.
It’s clever, right? It’s a Gadget deck, that also plays a Giant Rat toolbox! Ratty!
Steve Aragon is a member of Team Madness who has traveled all the way here from California to play in the Jump. Paul Levitin on the other hand needs no introduction for those of you have kept your list of Shonen Jump Champions up to date.
David Javery has a secret. A secret that could completely destroy Jake McNeely.
Remember back in the finals from SJC Baltimore when Shane Scurry first piloted Chaos Return to a win? Remember his opponent, Chris Pittao, who ended up losing via deckout?
Like many of the players preparing for this event, I’ve spent a great deal of time thinking about it, and now seems like a good time to share my thoughts on the subject.
