Welcome to the Adam and Joe show. It is an all Trotters final, and as such, both players seem pretty familiar with each other’s deck. The finals of this UK championships should be pretty skill-intensive—or at least, banter-intensive. This is pretty impressive, as Joe proclaims to have constructed his deck at 6 AM on the day of the event.
“May the Mirror Walls be with you,” suggested Adam with a wry smile, referencing just one of the unorthodox choices that served Whittaker so well in the Swiss portion of the event.
This act of gallantry won him the toss, and he set some spells or traps and a face down monster. Joe played Pot of Greed, a Mystical Space Typhoon on his opponent’s Mystical Space Typhoon. His D.D. Assailant came out and had nothing to do but attack. The very next turn, Adam had a Snatch Steal, so his Blade Knight and new D.D. Assailant attacked for lots of damage.
Joe had a Tribe-Infecting Virus next turn to clear the board, to which Adam brought out a D. D. Warrior Lady who attacked. Joe played Smashing Ground and smashed with a Kycoo, the Ghost Destroyer.
“Joe, do you have a good hand?” Adam asked.
“Quite good,” Joe replied.
Joe attacked and was faced with a bunch of sheep, courtesy of Scapegoat. Next turn Adam had Tribe-Infecting Virus, whose ability allowed the direct attack. Joe played Snatch Steal on it and smacked right back.
After all of this stealing, Adam decided that it was time for Breaker the Magical Warrior to come to play, bringing his Tribe-Infecting Virus back onside, and assembling him enough of a force to attack for the win.
Game Two
Adam had the first real action, when a Nobleman of Crossout to get rig of Joe’s D. D. Warrior Lady and allow a bit of attacking. With a Mirror Force for Joe’s fresh new D.D. Assailant, Adam looked on top. He played a Sangan and Dust Tornado hit a Smashing Ground.
When Adam hit Magician of Faith with Nobleman of Crossout, it wasn’t clear which player had the advantage, as both frantically removed the powerful Spellcaster from their decks. Joe played Bell of Destruction on Sangan, then got a D. D. Warrior Lady that had the opportunity to attack unopposed.
Blade Knight got in a fight for Joe, and got removed from the game by D. D. Warrior Lady.
Adam’s Blade Knight beat up Don Zaloog before hitting the wall of Spirit Reaper on the next turn. Exiled Force for Adam killed the Reaper, but an Enemy Controller from Joe turned Blade Knight sideways, negating any attack potential for the turn.
Adam had Swords of Revealing Light to redress the balance in terms of attack negation, then Breaker the Magical Warrior rather clumsily fell down a Bottomless Trap Hole, never to be seen again.
When Adam had a Tribe-Infecting Virus, things looked pretty hot for Kruszynski, but in a big attack he lost his entire board to Mirror Force.
From here it was up to both players to regroup and rebuild. This was slightly easier for Adam, as he had a higher life point buffer to work with. Heavy Storm from Joe was chained to a Scapegoat from Adam, gumming up the board once more.
Joe had a Premature Burial, and went for Airknight Parshath. In the face of all those tiny sheep, it seemed like a pretty good choice. He played a Delinquent Duo, hitting a Snatch Steal that could have rather spoiled his day.
Unfortunately for Joe, Adam already had Bell of Destruction for the Airknight, and the damage from it was enough to finish off his opponent.
Adam Kruszynski is the UK National Champion!
