In any card game, collectible or otherwise, it doesn’t really get any better than a wild card. If you have one card that can be anything in your deck, you’ll always have the right tool for the right situation—not to mention the fact that your combos will become infinitely faster. You can get to your best cards more reliably, take risks that normally wouldn’t be feasible, and just flat-out have an advantage over your opponent.
And that’s what today’s competitors are playing for. Not familiar with the normal spell card Gold Sarcophagus? Here’s what it does . . .
Gold Sarcophagus
Select and remove from play 1 card in your Deck. During your second Standby Phase after this card’s activation, add the removed card to your hand.
So long as you can afford the two-turn delay, Gold Sarcophagus is another copy of any card in your deck. The uses for such a powerful spell are obvious. You can get to an important combo card faster, and you can get the specific one you need if you already drew the matching cards. You can pull one of the power cards from your deck, grabbing cards like Confiscation or Snatch Steal earlier and more consistently than other decks. The use of Gold Sarcophagus actually lets you overcome the system of Limited cards, meant to hold extremely powerful effects in check by creating an increased element of randomization. The newest prize card breaks that system, and it’s hard to describe just what a big deal that is.
I remember writing a similar article about Shrink when that card was released as a Shonen Jump prize. The description was pretty long, and I got to talk about combos, timing, and specific uses for that exciting spell. This time, there aren’t really any details to go into: Gold Sarcophagus is simple, incredibly powerful, and possibly the best card ever conceived—even in a fast metagame. It can be used in any deck, it’s easy to activate, and it’s great at any part of the game. Gold Sarcophagus has incredible utility, near-infinite synergy, and there’s absolutely nothing else like it.
Tomorrow, four duelists will walk away wielding the immense power of the latest Shonen Jump prize card. Round 1 is about to begin, so get ready for one of the most hotly contested tournaments of all time!
