Welcome to the first Shonen Jump Championship of the TeleDAD era!

Last week we saw Teleport Dark Armed Dragon dominate Shonen Jump Championship Tulsa, taking eleven of the seats in the Top 16 and eventually the Championship. Adam Corn dueled against Joe Cantu in the finals in a mirror match that pitted TeleDAD with Solemn Judgment against TeleDAD without. At the end of the day the Solemn build reigned supreme, establishing a trend that will no doubt manifest here today.

Speaking of Adam Corn, he’s in attendance this morning, alongside Overdose allies like Shane Scurry and fellow Californians like Corey Defeo. The local group Team Fusion is here in attendance, as well as Cesar Gonzalez and Day 2 competitors like Travis Doan, Erin “Kaiba” Diaz, and Tomas Mijares. A lot of Shonen Jump circuit regulars are missing in action here this morning, so today’s a huge opportunity for new duelists and underdog Day 2 alums alike!

TeleDAD is most certainly the deck to beat, but a number of competitors are aiming to take it down with teched out strategies. Gladiator Beasts remain a popular pick, though main deck tech still seems lacking in the arsenals of many duelists. Anti-metagame strategies are looking to be more popular than usual today, and they may overcome the challenges that traditionally keep such decks out of the Top 16. With the expected metagame now cemented, this is the first event where duelists will have a real shot at teching against one big deck — and winning because of it. Lightsworn seems under-represented, but there’s a surprising number of players running three copies of King Tiger Wanghu with three Burden of the Mighty — that may be a sleeper hit here in Seattle.

The players are getting seated, and Round 1 is about to begin! Over 340 competitors have amassed here today at the Seattle Center, far exceeding expectations for turnout and shattering attendance records for previous tournaments at this venue. Welcome to nine rounds of dueling action, live from the biggest Shonen Jump Championship Seattle ever!
