Kyle Huffman traveled here all the way from Missouri, while Kyle is a local player from a bit north of Minneapolis. There were introductions all around, but both players were tight-lipped about their strategies for the day. Jens had just come off a win last round against Shane Scurry, successfully defeating the SJC Champion with a deck based on winning with a huge Chimeratech Overdragon. Kyle, on the other hand, was piloting the sole undefeated Demise OTK deck at this stage of the tournament.
Kyle won the opening roll and started things off with Manju of the Ten Thousand Hands to fetch Demise, King of Armageddon, one of the strongest possible starts for the deck! He set a spell or trap and passed back to Jens who set a spell or trap and summoned U.F.O Turtle. Threatening Roar shut down the battle phase, and Jens passed his turn.
Kyle was up, and he threw down Advanced Ritual Art, prompting Jens to chain Trap Dustshoot! It didn’t matter though, as Kyle had two copies of Demise in hand and Jens could only send one back. Demise came down and cleared the field, but Jens flipped Book of Moon to try and slow Kyle down! It still didn’t matter though, as Kyle followed up with Metamorphosis and Megamorph allowing him to swing for 7000 while Ring of Destruction ensured the game would end on Jens’ draw phase! Kyle Huffman breaks through all of Jens’ main decked defenses to take a quick victory in game 1!
Both players side decked, and Jens was up first in game 2! He started with Future Fusion for Cyber Twin Dragon, then set a pair of Trap Dustshoots along with Cursed Seal of the Forbidden Spell. He finished up with Neo-Spacian Grand Mole, and Kyle was in trouble. Kyle lost both his Ritual searchers and was stuck with a hand of normal monsters, Ring of Destruction and Metamorphosis. Kyle sent a Neo Bug into the Mole to prompt a bounce, and then set his Ring and passed. Jens was up next, and he set a spell or trap before passing his turn. Insect Knight came down for Kyle, and he attacked directly before ending. Future Fusion brought Cyber Twin Dragon out in Kyle’s standby phase, but Ring of Destruction was flipped in an attempt to destroy it! Book of Moon saved the Dragon, and Card Trooper came down for Jens next. Trooper pumped and traded with the Insect Knight, and Jens set a card. Manju of the Ten Thousand Hands came down for Kyle, but he lost it to Pulling the Rug and was forced to set a card before passing. Jens brought the beats with Cyber Twin Dragon and Grand Mole next turn, and Kyle simply couldn’t keep up. Jens Erickson demonstrates exactly why Demise isn’t doing so hot right now to tie the match up at 1 to 1!
Both players side decked once again, and it was Kyle’s choice to start. His first play was Cold Wave, and he followed it up with Sonic Bird to fetch out Advanced Ritual Art. Not something you see everyday in Demise decks! Unable to use or set spell or trap cards, Jens set a monster and passed back over to Kyle who complemented his Ritual spell with Demise by means of Manju of the Ten Thousand Hands. Advanced Ritual Art brought Demise down, but Kyle didn’t clear the field. Demise attacked into Jens set Sangan, prompting a search for U.F.O. Turtle before the searchers continued the attack. Jens was back up, and he used Smashing Ground to rid the field of Demise. He followed up with Card Trooper and Machine Duplication to give him three self-replacing 1900 ATK monsters! All the attacks went through, and Kyle took a total of 2900 damage. Jens finished with a pair of set spell or traps, but lost one of them, Pulling the Rug, to Mystical Space Typhoon in the end phase. For all his cleverness with the Cold Wave, Kyle was getting run down anyway! He summoned a Neo Bug to take down a Card Trooper, but it wasn’t enough as Brain Control sealed the duel for Jens on his next turn! There are no undefeated Demise decks left in the event, as Jens Erickson finishes off the last one, 2-1!
