Round 7: Max Suffridge vs. Fransisco Rome
Matt Peddle

It's round 7 and that means it's time to feature table 1. Max Suffridge just happens to be there, and so he's back once more. Sitting opposite from him is Fransisco Rome. Rome has received little coverage through his career as a duelist, but he is tearing up the National tournament here today. Both players wished each other luck. Max won the roll and opted to go first.

He did so with Confiscation, revealing Destiny Draw, Destiny Hero - Malicious, Machine Duplication, Scapegoat, and Mystical Space Typhoon. He thought for a while before discarding Destiny Draw, set a monster and passed. Rome set a spell or trap card and passed to Max. Max summoned Spirit Reaper, flip summoned Sangan, and Rome played Scapegoat.

Max hit a pair of Sheep and Rome set a spell or trap before ending. Max tributed his Sangan for Raiza the Storm Monarch and sent the spell or trap to the top of Rome's deck. He played Premature Burial for Sangan, cleared two Sheep and hit directly with Spirit Reaper, pulling Machine Duplication, from Rome's hand, before passing. Knowing his next top deck was no help, Rome simply picked up his cards.

Rome opened the second game with Elemental Hero Stratos to search out Destiny Hero - Disk Commander. He set two spell or traps and passed to Max. "Are you going to allow me a main phase?" asked Max. Rome flipped Trap Dustshoot. "Didn't think so." Rome sent back Snipe Hunter. Max special summoned Cyber Dragon, attacked Stratos, and set a monster and a spell or trap before passing. Rome was up now, and he played Brain Control on Cyber Dragon. He then tributed it to Metamorphosis to special summon Dark Balter the Terrible, who attacked Dekoichi the Battlechanted Locomotive, negated its effect.

Max was up now, and he played Heavy Storm. Rome negated it by paying 1000 life points with Dark Balter the Terrible. Max played Premature Burial on Cyber Dragon, Snatch Steal on Balter, and swung in with both monsters. Rome played Card Trooper and used its effect, but hit no Destiny Hero - Malicious with which to survive for another turn. He scooped up his cards.

Max Suffridge crushes Fransisco Rome with some extremely aggressive play, taking the match 2-0.
