It was Team Savage versus Team Comic Odyssey in a direct clash for the second Cyber-Stein! Kevin Hor, one of the duelists who sparked the original conflict between the two teams, went up against a person who he personally respected. The respect was definitely mutual, and Lee and Hor gave the impression that they were pretty good friends.
“I respect you, man,” said Tony, shaking Hor’s hand. “I respect you, too,” replied Hor. And with that, they began.
Game One
Hor took the opening for game one, and after using a Reinforcement of the Army he set a face-down card of each type, one monster and one spell or trap. Lee fired back in the same way, using Reinforcement of the Army for a Zombyra the Dark. He attacked Hor’s face down Sinister Serpent with Zombyra, and activated Delinquent Duo to get rid of two of Hor’s cards. Lee set a Premature Burial, but it was quickly destroyed with Mystical Space Typhoon. Hor drew and took back his Sinister Serpent, setting a monster and a spell or trap¾he seemed off-balance after the long day.
Lee summoned Kycoo the Ghost Destroyer, and attacked the face-down monster (Sinister Serpent again) with Zombyra. Kycoo then attacked directly, and Hor lost his Serpent.
Hor summoned Breaker the Magical Warrior, broke Lee’s face down Lightning Vortex, played Snatch Steal on Kycoo, and wiped Lee’s board. Lee set one face down monster, then played Smashing Ground on the Breaker. On Hor’s turn, Swords of Revealing Light flipped Lee’s Sangan. He summoned Don Zaloog, Kycoo attacked into Sangan, and Lee pulled Sinister Serpent with its effect. Don Zaloog then attacked directly, and Lee lost the Sinister Serpent, a masterful management of a disadvantageous situation. The life point totals were 4900 to 6200.
Lee took back his Serpent and gained 1000 life points. He summoned Exiled Force and called priority to take out Kycoo. Hor drew, played Premature Burial on his Breaker, and attacked for 3000. This time, Don Zaloog didn’t catch the Serpent . . . it discarded Black Luster Soldier – Envoy of the Beginning instead!
Lee was in a bind. He set the Serpent and a face-down spell or trap. Hor summoned a third attacker and went after the Serpent, but ran straight into Mirror Force!
Lee topdecked Pot of Greed, drew two cards, and set one monster. Hor shook his head, as that Mirror Force was a deep wound. Next turn, Lee flipped D. D. Warrior Lady and attacked straight into a goat token. On the next turn he ate another, and then another on the following turn. Hor got lucky, topdecking into Delinquent Duo, but he opted not to use it.
Lee wasted the last goat with Sinister, and attacked with D. D. Hor used Call of the Haunted to bring back Breaker, but Lee played Book of Moon and then attacked it with the Warrior Lady to take it out. Hor played Delinquent Duo to get rid of Tribe-Infecting Virus and another card, and then set two face-down spell or traps. The life point totals were 2900 apiece.
Lee attacked with D. D. Warrior Lady again next turn, but Mirror Force fended it off. Hor played Heavy Storm, but Lee chained Waboku. Nobleman of Crossout hit Lee’s face-down Assailant, but Hor had nothing to follow up and no momentum. He got pummeled by Kycoo on the next turn. He set a monster, but ate a Nobleman of Lee’s own, and Kycoo attacked him to win the game.
Game Win: Tony Lee
Game Two
Hor again opted to open. He set a monster and a Sakuretsu Armor. Lee summoned Blade Knight and attacked Hor’s set D. D. Warrior Lady, but Hor opted not to use the Sakuretsu Armor. A few monster exchanges occurred, but it was generally an equal cycle of give and take.
Tribe-Infecting Virus hit Lee’s side of the field, and cleared out Hor’s D.D. Assailant with its effect. Blade Knight hit on Hor’s side and nailed the Tribe. The Knight attacked next turn into a face-down D. D. Warrior Lady, and Hor proceeded to extract some major card advantage out of Lee. Premature Burial brought up Hor’s D.D. Assailant, a Nobleman of Crossout took down Lee’s Magician of Faith, and the Assailant took a clear shot at Lee’s life points. Lee attacked with Kycoo, hoping to overpower the Assailant, but Hor quickly flipped Sakuretsu Armor. The Assailant attacked for another 1700 damage. Lee attempted to fight back, this time with Zombyra the Dark, but his fledgling offensive was cut short by Book of Moon. Hor Summoned Sangan, the Assailant attacked the now face-down Zombyra, Call of the Haunted brought up another attacker, and Sangan attacked to win the game.
Game Three
It came down to this: two friends on opposite sides of the fence. Lee went first and opened with Graceful Charity. He lost a Zombyra and a Book of Moon, and set one card of each type face down on the field. Hor used Pot of Greed, then summoned Reflect Bounder and attacked into Sangan. Lee took a Sinister Serpent. Hor set a Ring, but it was quickly destroyed by a Mystical Space Typhoon.
Lee summoned Tribe-Infecting Virus and played Premature Burial for Sangan. Tribe took out the Reflect Bounder and attacked for 2600. Hor set nothing but a face-down Scapegoat, and when pressed under attack, he flipped it. Lee didn’t attack any of the tokens. Hor summoned Kycoo, took out the Tribe, and passed after setting two spell or traps. Lee set another monster face down, and Kycoo attacked it¾the Serpent bit the dust, at least for the moment.
Lee took his Sinister and set it over and over – Hor was goat locked pretty effectively,. And Lee kept summoning the Serpent. Both players’ fields started stacking up. eventually Lee played Graceful Charity and Delinquent Duo. Hor lost his Tribe and Book of Moon. Lee had no offensive followup though, so things weren’t that bad for Hor. Kycoo eventually crashed into another Assailant, and both were removed. Lee started looking for an offense, summoning Blade Knight, but Hor popped Torrential Tribute. Hor got an opening, and attacked directly with Berserk Gorilla. Lee summoned Kycoo, but it was destroyed by Bottomless Trap Hole. Smashing Ground hit the Berserk Gorilla, and it was the next to go.
Hor drew into Graceful Charity and activated it. He looked to use Mystical Space Typhoon on Lee’s one face down spell, but found it to be a Waboku, which was quickly chained. Lee summoned Kinetic Soldier, and though he Crossouted Hor’s face down D. D. Warrior Lady, the Kinetic was walloped by a Sakuretsu Armor on its first attack.
Hor put forth a Blade Knight, but it was quickly destroyed by Torrential Tribute. Hor summoned up a Black Luster Soldier, but found he didn’t have a Dark monster to pay for it. He apologized, and set a spell or trap.
Lee took back his Sinister Serpent after briefly forgetting it. He set a monster. Hor summoned up Breaker, but it was instantly taken out with Ring of Destruction. The life point totals were 2800 to 2400 in Hor’s favor. With the Breaker gone, he had what he needed, and Black Luster Soldier hit the field. He attacked with the Soldier, hit Magician of Faith, and attacked again for the win. He wasn’t happy in the slightest to have to beat his friend, but Kevin Hor is now the first duelist in North America to win two Cyber-Steins!
Tournament Win: Kevin Hor
