Team Profile: Enigma
Jerome McHale

Team Enigma has earned a name for themselves for their combination of class, skill, and unique deckbuilding over many years. Present as far back as the first Shonen Jump—where founding players Kirk and Lance Leonhardt played Gravekeeper decks—the idea behind the team remains strong today, and they have seven members here at this 50th Shonen Jump.

To give you an idea of what Enigma brings to the table today, here are some of their decklists. Kirk Leonhardt, professional geezer and former chess player, is playing a Water-themed anti-meta hand control deck that is so odd it seems to defy description. Omar Navarro, self-described charismatic and kind amnesiac, is playing a burn deck with a heavy anti-meta side deck and a somewhat transformative strategy also present in the side deck. Erik Landis is running Six Samurai, Lynn Leonhardt is running a deckout deck, Jack Duffy is running Magical Explosion/DDT, and Brandon Campbell is running a variant of Perfect Circle. Lance Leonhardt is running Rainbow Dark Dragon. That’s seven members running entirely different decks, and as of Round 6, Omar is 4-2, Kirk is 5-1, and Erik Landis is 4-2. They even have a member on the judging staff. Dustin Johnson is helping to run things here today rather than playing.

There is something special about a team that brings seven people running entirely different decks, and I hope Enigma continues to endorse creative deck building and classy play as they have in the past.
