Round 6: Emon Ghaneian vs. Brent Yetter
Jason Grabher-Meyer

It was another first-time matchup, and this time it was East Coast versus West Coast! Like so many matches today, Ghaneian and Yetter have never played each other, despite having competed in many of the same events over the past two years.

Emon won the roll with a spectacular double six, while Yetter rolled snake-eyes. Not a good omen. Emon played Confiscation to begin the duel, and chose from Goldd, Wu-Lord of Dark World, Heavy Storm, Nobleman of Crossout, Tsukuyomi, and Dekoichi the Battlechanted Locomotive. He discarded Nobleman of Crossout, set a card to each zone, and passed. Yetter set a monster and passed back, leaving Emon to flip Magician of Faith and return Confiscation to his hand. He summoned D. D. Assailant, ran it into Yetter’s set Dekoichi the Battlechanted Locomotive, attacked with Magician of Faith, and used Confiscation again. Sakuretsu Armor and Chaos Sorcerer were Yetter’s new draws, and Emon discarded the Sorcerer before ending his turn.

Yetter was up, and summoned Tsukuyomi to turn D. D. Assailant face down. Tsukuyomi attacked Emon’s Magician of Faith and destroyed it, and Yetter followed up with Nobleman of Crossout to remove Emon’s D. D. Assailant from play. Emon set a monster, Yetter set a back row card, Emon flip summoned Dekoichi, attacked, and hit directly. The life point totals were 6300 to 5200 with Yetter leading. Emon then summoned Tsukuyomi, turned Dekoichi face down, and ended. Yetter passed back, Emon flipped Heavy Storm to destroy Yetter’s lone set, Sakuretsu Armor, and played Graceful Charity. He discarded Treeborn Frog instantly, and then decided to discard Dekoichi. He again flip summoned Dekoichi, attacked, summoned Tsukuyomi to turn it face down, and set a back row card. Yetter set two more back row card and passed again.

Dekoichi flipped again on Emon’s side, nabbed him a card, and attacked, this time into Sakuretsu Armor. Emon set a card to each zone and Yetter flipped Call of the Haunted, taking ack his own Dekoichi. Yetter summoned Tsukuyomi, targeting his Dekoichi, but Emon flipped Torrential Tribute! It wiped the field, and emon was left with six cards in hand and one set card to Yetter’s four cards in hand. Yetter passed without doing anything, leaving an open field.

“Yep, that’s game,” said Emon. He summoned Breaker the Magical Warrior, special summoned Chaos Sorcerer, and then used Return from the Different Dimension to special summon Magician of Faith, D. D. Assailant, and Dekoichi the Battlechanted Locomotive. All the monsters attacked and the first duel was over!

Yetter, reeling slightly from the absolute beating he suffered, quickly set to side decking while Emon busied himself at a more relaxed pace.

Yetter opened the duel with a set card to his back row, but no monster. Emon fired back with a set to each zone and passed quickly, but Yetter summoned Mystic Swordsman LV2 on the following turn. It slammed into Emon’s Dekoichi the Battlechanted Locomotive and took it out, depriving it of its effect! Emon special summoned Cyber Dragon, and rammed the Mystic Swordsman LV2 with it, destroying it. He then set a monster, passed, and Yetter was forced to consider his options carefully. He played Mystical Space Typhoon, destroying Emon’s Bottomless Trap Hole, and then set a monster before ending his turn. Emon flipped Dekoichi, drew, tributed his Dekoichi for Zaborg the Thunder Monarch, and watched as the field was washed away by Yetter’s set Torrential Tribute. Yetter lost his Spirit Reaper, Emon set a spell or trap, and play passed to Yetter.

He summoned Asura Priest, attacked with it directly, set two cards to his spell and trap zone, and got whalloped by Heavy Storm, losing Call of the Haunted and Royal Decree. Emon set a monster and passed.

Yetter played Graceful Charity, discarding another Royal Decree and Asura Priest. Nobleman of Crossout removed Emon’s set Magician of Faith from the field, and both players needed to strip copies from their decks. Confiscation revealed Emon’s hand: Metamorphosis and Jinzo. He took quite a while contemplating the decision, inspecting both Emon’s graveyard and his own, but eventually settled on Metamorphosis. Yetter set his last card, a monster, and Emon set a back row card. Yetter flipped Magician of Faith, took back Graceful Charity, activated it, and discarded Smashing Ground and Premature Burial. He summoned Spirit Reaper, attacked with it, and ran headlong into Call of the Haunted. Emon brought back Zaborg the Thunder Monarch, and that cut off Yetter’s offensive intents. Yetter set his last card to his spell and trap zone and passed.

Emon’s Zaborg attacked the Magician of Faith, but was destroyed by Sakuretsu Armor. Emon set a spell or trap card, Yetter topdecked Mobius the Frost Monarch and summoned it, but walked into Torrential Tribute. Emon topdecked Sangan, summoned it, attacked, and Yetter set a spell or trap. Emon tributed the Sangan on the following turn for Jinzo, pulling D. D. Warrior Lady with Sangan’s effect and attacking before passing. Yetter flipped the top card of his deck, saw that it was Nobleman of Crossout, revealed it and his set Mirror Force to Emon, and gave him the handshake!

Emon Ghaneian moves on with a 6-0 undefeated record!
