It all came down to this. After taking down local superstar Lindsey Mantos, Emon was ready to take home another Shrink. Opposite him was Andrew Novoa from Team Junky Spot. After a brief discussion over whether to roll one die or two to determine who would start, Emon caved and accepted the one die roll. Andrew won the roll, and after one more quick check of the decklists he opted to start the game. Andrew started off with a set spell or trap, and Emon fired back with a Mystical Space Typhoon to destroy Sakuretsu Armor. Spirit Reaper came down for Emon and attacked directly discarding Chaos Sorcerer from Andrew’s hand. He passed with no backfield, but Andrew had no monsters to play. He set two spells or traps and passed to Emon who set a monster and passed.
In the next turn Andrew brought down a Mystic Tomato to attack Emon’s facedown Dekoichi the Battlechanted Locomotive. In main phase two he stuck Emon with the dangerous Tomato using Creature Swap. Emon set a spell or trap and passed back to Andrew who took it back with Snatch Steal. Emon’s Reaper hit its owner directly discarding Snatch Steal from his hand. The Tomato hit as well and Andrew passed his turn. Emon drew and gained his life before summoning Treeborn Frog and activating Torrential Tribute. He passed without playing anything else and Andrew brought his Tomato back with Premature Burial. The Tomato swung unopposed and it was back to Emon. The frog returned and he tributed it for Zaborg the Thunder Monarch eliminating the Tomato from the field. The Monarch hit directly and Andrew set two spells or traps before passing back to Emon.
Emon returned his frog and attacked again before setting a third monster and passing. Andrew set a third card to his backfield and with nothing to stop the Zaborg, he soon lost the game.
Emon – 1 Andrew – 0
The player shuffled silently for what could be the final game of the tournament. Andrew opted to go first one again and he started with a set to each Zone. Emon summoned Cyber Dragon and Spirit Reaper before attacking into Andrew’s Reaper. He set a spell or trap and passed to Andrew who tributed his Reaper for Zaborg to take out the opposing reaper. Zaborg fell to Sakuretsu Armor but its sacrifice was not in vain as it was removed to summon Chaos Sorcerer. The Dragon was removed from play and the turn was passed to Emon who set two spells or traps and summoned another Cyber Dragon. The Dragon was removed next turn and then Sorcerer was tributed for Mobius the Frost Monarch destroying Emon’s Return from the Different Dimension and Heavy Storm.
Emon needed to get back into this and he was well on his way when Andrew summoned Exiled Force to destroy his set Sangan. Emon fetched Tsukuyomi but it did him no good as his Cyber Dragon and Tsukuyomi were both lost to Torrential Tribute. Andrew was simply dominating the game, and two turns and one Graceful Charity later Andrew finished him off by swapping Mystic Tomato over with Creature Swap and tributing Emon’s monster for Cyber Dragon.
Emon – 1 Andrew – 1
“Did you see how bad he beat me that game?” Emon mentioned to Ryan Hayakawa, who was watching over his shoulder. It was Emon’s turn to start and he did so with a set to each zone. Andrew played Heavy Storm to destroy Emon’s Mirror Force before setting a card to each zone and passing. Emon flipped his Magical Merchant getting Call of the Haunted and it was then tributed for Mobius. Andrew lost his Call of the Haunted but got back his Heavy Storm when Mobius attacked his facedown Magician of Faith. He played it again next turn but Emon chained Scapegoat. Andrew set a Mystic Tomato which was attacked by Mobius on the next turn. Tomato fetched out Sangan and Emon sighed. “Zaborg is probably next,” he said as he passed with no backfield. Sangan switched to defense and Andrew set a spell or trap before passing. Mobius hit Sangan and Andrew fetched out Exiled Force.
Emon set a spell or trap and passed over to Andrew who checked the graveyards before special summoning Chaos Sorcerer. Mobius was removed from play and Andrew passed his turn. During the end phase emon activated Mystical Space Typhoon to destroy Scapegoat. Andrew couldn’t chain because he summoned the Sorcerer so play passed back to Emon. Emon still had all his sheep tokens, so he could only play one more monster. He activated Snatch Steal to take the Sorcerer and removed one of his own sheep. Spirit Reaper took the empty spot on the field to pluck Premature Burial from Andrew’s hand, and Emon set Book of Moon. Andrew gained 1000 life points from Snatch Steal then summoned Exiled Force and opted to destroy the Sorcerer. He set two spells or traps and Emon summoned D.D. Warrior Lady to attack after he switched Reaper to defense. The Lady connected and Emon passed. Andrew destroyed the Lady next turn with Smashing Ground but had no other plays.
Emon passed his turn as did Andrew, and when play returned to Emon he set a monster. Andrew finally revealed one of his set cards to be Nobleman of Crossout and both players lost all copies of Dekoichi the Battlechanted Locomotive. He set a new spell or trap and passed back to Emon who set a new monster. Finally, Andrew had a monster to play. He special summoned Cyber Dragon and tributed it for Mobius. Book of Moon was chained to flip Mobius down, and Andrew was in a bad spot. He removed a light and a dark for Chaos Sorcerer to remove Spirit Reaper. Emon felt the need to use his Graceful Charity at last discarding Treeborn Frog and Cyber Dragon. He then flipped Magician of Faith to pull back Snatch Steal and activated it to take the Sorcerer. The Sorcerer attacked the set Mobius and Magician of Faith swung directly. Emon set another spell or trap and passed back to Andrew. Andrew flipped his own Snatch Steal to take back Chaos Sorcerer and opted to attack the Magician.
He passed over to Emon who simply set a monster and passed. Andrew removed a token from play and tributed for Zaborg to destroy Emon’s set Magician of Faith. Emon activated Call of the Haunted but it was negated by Royal Decree. He played Heavy Storm and then moved to summon Chaos Sorcerer. He couldn’t though as he had no dark monsters. Instead, he set a spell or trap and passed over to Andrew who drew into Graceful Charity! He could only keep one of the cards he drew, and after some consideration he discarded Reinforcement of the Army and Mystic Swordsman LV2 in favor of keeping Mystical Space Typhoon. The Typhoon destroyed Emon’s Sakuretsu Armor and Zaborg destroyed the last token. Emon brought back his frog and tributed for his own Zaborg to destroy Andrew’s. He attacked directly unopposed for the next two turns as Andrew couldn’t draw anything to keep himself in the game.
