Chock opened game one, setting two cards to his spell and trap zone, a monster, and passing. Bueno brought down Cyber Dragon, attacked, and smacked into Des Koala. The life point totals were 8000 to 6000. Bueno set two spell or trap cards and passed. Chock set one spell or trap card, passed back, and Cyber Dragon attacked into Gravity Bind!
Chock activated Wave-Motion Cannon, but a turn later, Breaker the Magical Warrior broke Gravity Bind. Cyber Dragon and Breaker swung, but hit nothing but Scapegoat. Chock dropped Level Limit - Area B, set a card to each zone, and passed. In Bueno’s standby phase, he flipped Ojama Trio to fill Bueno’s field.
Bueno activated Dark Hole, but Chock played Secret Barrel in response! When the Ojamas went down, Bueno had only 2700 life points to Chock’s full 8000. Sangan was destroyed by the Dark Hole as well, so Chock grabbed Stealth Bird. Bueno hit the Wave-Motion with Mystical Space Typhoon, but Chock set the Stealth Bird. Bueno set one spell or trap and passed. Chock flipped Stealth Bird, but Torrential Tribute destroyed it. Still, Chock activated Wave-Motion Cannon, and moments later he was claiming the win with Wave-Motion and Poison of the Old Man!
Poison of the Old Man wins a Shonen Jump Championship semifinal duel? Brendan Chock wins the first duel at a lightning pace!
Bueno opened game two with a single set monster. Chock fired back with a set to each zone, passed, and Bueno activated Dark Hole. He destroyed his own Sangan, pulled Spirit Reaper with it, and took out Chock’s set Des Koala in the process. He summoned the Reaper, attacked with it, discarded Stealth Bird with the Reaper’s effect, set two spells or traps, and passed.
Chock used Heavy Storm, chained Just Desserts, and set a monster. Bueno summoned Exiled Force, tributed it to destroy Chock’s set Sangan, and Chock pulled Cyber Jar. Spirit Reaper hit directly yet again, and Chock managed to keep the Cyber Jar, but he lost the only other card in his hand, Magician of Faith. He drew, set the Jar, and ended his turn.
Bueno summoned Kinetic Soldier and walked right into the Jar. Chock pulled Dekoichi, Tsukuyomi, Stealth Bird, Bottomless Trap Hole, and Lava Golem. Bueno got Magician of Faith, Dekoichi, Magical Merchant, Cyber Dragon, and Dust Tornado. Bueno set his three monsters and Chock set his two. That Lava Golem was going to come in handy. Chock summoned it immediately, hit Merchant and Magician of Faith, and then flip summoned Stealth Bird. He flipped Dekoichi too, drew a card, and nabbed himself Level Limit - Area B. He flopped Stealth Bird into face down defense position, played Level Limit, and set another card.
In the end phase, Dust Tornado destroyed the Level Limit, but Chock played Ojama Trio on the following turn to clog Bueno’s field. The life point totals were 7400 to 6000 in Chock’s favor.
Bueno flipped Dekochi, took a card, tributed it for Mobius, and Mobius fell into a Bottomless Trap Hole. Golem turned to attack, took down Stealth Bird, and play passed to Chock.
He set a monster, Lava Golem smacked it, and it was revealed to be another Stealth Bird. A turn later, Lava Golem and Spirit Reaper were attacking Chock, but he activated Dark Hole to save himself. The life point totals were tied at 4100. Bueno tried to press with Cyber Dragon, tribute summoning it off a face down Spirit Reaper, but it was sucked into Sakuretsu Armor. A turn later he was keeping the pressure on, attacking with Mystic Swordsman LV2. A turn after that he tributed for Spell Canceller, but Torrential Tribute destroyed it.
Chock drew into another Level Limit - Area B, and activated it. Both players spent a turn doing nothing but setting additional spell cards. Bueno set another, moving himself up to four set spells or traps and no monsters. Chock activated Swords of Revealing Light, but Bueno hit Level Limit with Mystical Space Typhoon. He then activated Call of the Haunted to bring back Spell Canceller and swung through the Swords of Revealing Light for game.
The match proceeds to game three.
Chock opted to begin game three. He activated Level Limit - Area B, set two spells or traps, set a monster, and lost it to Dark Hole, revealing it to be Stealth Bird. Bueno set a card to each zone and passed. Chock passed, and Dust Tornado blew away Level Limit. Bueno flipped Magical Mercchant, tributed it for Mobius the Frost Monarch, and the Monarch was negated by Solemn Judgment. A turn later, Bueno tried to press with D. D. Warrior Lady, but Gravity Bind stopped the attack.
Chock flipped Cyber Jar, getting Level Limit - Area B, Scapegoat, a pair of Dekoichi, and Des Koala. Bueno got Cyber Dragon, Sangan, Spirit Reaper, Skill Drain, and Smashing Ground. Bueno responded with Torrential Tribute, but Chock chained Secret Barrel for 1800 damage. Bueno took Mystic Swordsman LV2 off of Sangan, and the life point totals were 4000 to 6200 in Bueno’s favor.
He tried to attack with Kinetic Soldier, but Chock flipped Scapegoat. Bueno opted not to attack any tokens. He set a spell or trap, passed, and Chock set a monster before passing right back.
Mystical Space Typhoon destroyed Chock’s face down. He chained it, and Bueno took 500 from Just Deserts. Bueno summoned Mystic Swordsman LV2, attacked only one Sheep token, and passed the turn.
Chock tributed both of Bueno’s monsters for Lava Golem. He passed, and Bueno activated Skill Drain. He set one spell or trap, passed, and Chock activated Heavy Storm. He set Level Limit - Area B to replace his Gravity Bind. Bueno played Swords of Revealing Light, flipped Chock’s set Stealth Bird, and then destroyed it with Smashing Ground. He tributed the Golem for Mobius in defense position, destroyed the Level Limit, and passed. Chock set Sangan and gave control of the duel back to Bueno.
Mobius hit the face down Sangan, Chock took Magician of Faith, and Bueno passed. Chock set it, activated his last card in hand, which was Wave-Motion Cannon, and ended. Bueno blasted Magician of Faith with Nobleman of Crossout, removed his own from his deck, and Bueno was at 3700. The Cannon could win it in a few turns.
Bueno used Smashing Ground to blow away one Sheep token, then Mobius hit another. Chock had one left. Chock activated Messenger of Peace, but Bueno summoned Breaker. Chock chained Book of Moon to deprive Breaker of its token. Next turn, Chock set Spirit Reaper.
Spirit Reaper held off Bueno for a turn, and Chock set Gravity Bind. Bueno had the topdeck though, and bounced Gravity Bind with it. He then played Snatch Steal to destroy the Spirit Reaper, tributed for Cyber Dragon, and attacked directly with Mobius and Cyber Dragon for the game!
