Elemental Hero fans, rejoice. The new set, Power of the Duelist, is going to feature a wide variety of new cards based off of Jaden’s deck from the Yu-Gi-Oh! GX animated series.

In less than two weeks, the Power of the Duelist Sneak Preview weekend will take place. TCG set. Today’s card is tailored to the Elemental Hero fans out there. I present to you a new card from Jaden’s deck: Elemental Hero Neos!

Before I get into detail about why Elemental Hero Neos doesn’t have an effect, it may be beneficial to detail where this monster comes from in the animated series. For those of you who haven’t been watching Yu-Gi-Oh! GX on Cartoon Network, the new season features a new rival for Jaden: Aster Phoenix. While Jaden’s deck sports the Elemental Heroes, Aster’s deck features the rivals of the Elemental Heroes, the Destiny Heroes. Let’s just say that things aren’t expected to go well for Jaden unless he enlists some new help. When Jaden stumbles across Neo Space, he finds and enlists the help of Elemental Hero Neos for his deck.

I’ll bet that sounds confusing. To be as spoiler-free as possible, I wanted to make sure I didn’t give away anything big. However, be sure to check out the new season of Yu-Gi-Oh! GX to see what that is all about. Basically, Jaden has a new tool at his disposal, and Elemental Hero Neos involves the use of a different kind of fusion method.

While Elemental Hero Neos does not possess an effect, it can fuse itself with various monsters on the field while it’s on the field as well. These monsters are the Neo Spacians, a special kind of monster new to Jaden’s deck in the new season. When you fuse Neos and one of the Neo Spacians together, it is done without the use of Polymerization. Instead, you return the fused monsters to your deck. The problem with this versatile method of fusion summoning is that the fusion monsters you get are returned to your fusion deck at the end of the turn.

However, this downside can be negated through Neo Space, another new card in Power of the Duelist. The field spell Neo Space negates the effect that causes your Neo Space fusion monsters to return back to your fusion deck at the end of the turn. This field spell also powers up your Elemental Hero Neos, as well as monsters that have the fusion material of Elemental Hero Neos, by 500 ATK.

Of course, there is still the trouble of dealing with a level 7 vanilla monster that has no effects otherwise. How can you consistently make sure you have Elemental Hero Neos? It is here that I must note that Enemy of Justice released some of the best support cards any sub-theme could get. E - Emergency Call is easily the best search effect to ever be released (well, next to Witch of the Black Forest). Being able to search your deck for any card of a specific type is amazing, and E - Emergency Call can make sure you always have easy access to Elemental Hero Neos.

However, there’s still the problem of having to summon Elemental Hero Neos. Thankfully, in another example of really powerful cards, there is O - Oversoul. This Elemental Hero support card from Enemy of Justice is effectively a Monster Reborn for your Elemental Hero monsters. This means that you not only have a powerful search effect for Neos, but also an effective recursion card to bring it onto the field. This can be a very powerful play when combined with a discard through Graceful Charity or the cost of another card.

Elemental Hero Neos is the center of the Neo Spacian strategy, and a few Neo Spacian monsters will be revealed before the big Sneak Preview weekend. Dark Panther was already revealed, but it isn’t the only one. Be sure to find a local venue near you that’s hosting the Power of the Duelist Sneak Preview weekend. You don’t want to be the last one to have the new cards, right? Of course not! Besides, all attendees can pick up some free stuff while supplies last at each location.
