It’s over, and Jerry Wang is now a two-time Shonen Jump Champion!

 

In a Day 2 field of two Zombie, three Lightsworn, and eleven TeleDAD decks, Jerry Wang piloted the winning metagame call: TeleDAD with Plaguespreader Zombie. He also had a number of against-the-odds matchups, and they started in the Top 16.

 

There he faced Da Lee, one of three Lightsworn duelists in Day 2. After dispatching Lee, Jerry faced another Lightsworn player: the rising star Henry Su. Starting the match off with an opening hand of three Destiny Hero – Malicious, Jerry managed to pull out two back-to-back wins anyway. It was unbelievable.

 

From there he dueled against Alex Johnson, trouncing Johnson’s non-Plaguespreader build before moving on to the finals. There, Jerry had to face his apprentice and playtesting partner George Velasquez. It was over in heartbeats; Jerry claimed Game 2 with a field of Elemental Hero Stratos, two Thought Ruler Archfiend, and two Dark Armed Dragon!

 

Our congratulations go out to all the duelists who competed here at Shonen Jump Championship Atlanta, but special kudos are reserved for Jerry Wang, your new two-time Shonen Jump Champion!

Day 2
It all came down to this: two duelists, from the same locale, each wielding TeleDAD with Plaguespreader Zombie.
This was it: Felipe DeJesus was Lightsworn’s last shot at making the finals table.
Could Su overcome the thirteen-time Day 2 champ?
This was the big one — Cesar Gonzalez, with the same deck he’s been running for multiple Jumps, against newcomer James Hames with Zombies.
Good morning, and welcome to the final showdown!
Day 1
It’s over, and the three decks anticipated to be the top archetypes heading into the weekend have delivered!
I’m not sure if either of these duelists has tiebreakers strong enough to carry them to Day 2, but I do know that Bobby Chambers hasn’t had a feature match in ages, and it’s time we remedied that given his newfound consistency.
These duelists’ lives in this tournament are on the line here — the winner will be one win away from Day 2, while the loser will have to win out and hope for incredible tiebreakers.
Kirk Rowe is the reason for this feature match: when I did the Top 20 Table Review, his deck was one of the few real standouts.
We grabbed the decklists for the top twenty tables for the round and broke down all twenty matchups to give you an idea of what’s dominating here in Atlanta.
This was a match between teammates, and a rematch from Shonen Jump Championship Orlando.
Henry Su stole the show at Shonen Jump Charlotte with his Diamond Dude Synchro build, a deck that you can read about over in Matt Peddle’s Champions column here today.
At first glance it looked like a lot of other Counter Fairy decks I’ve scoffed at in the past, but three rounds and one undefeated record later, I took a look at Pierce’s decklist and found that my initial impression couldn’t be further from the truth.
No big names here, but both of these duelists were undefeated: Cunningham with TeleDAD and Partridge with yet another King Tiger Wanghu deck.
Matthew Compton is here today playing a King Tiger Wanghu / Burden of the Mighty deck. That’s good news for him, and bad news for his opponent, Jonathan Moore, who’s piloting a Lightsworn deck with Dark Armed Dragon.
The most creative deck of the day may be the one you just saw in Round 1 action.
Justin Devletian is running an aggressive Plant deck this weekend, packing Gigaplant and Tytannial, Princess of Camellias, but he’s up against one of my top picks here today!
Few competitors are playing Spellcasters this weekend, but Nicolas Nunez is certainly one of the most promising!
The day we’ve all been waiting for has finally arrived: today we’ll witness the Shonen Jump Championship debut of Crossroads of Chaos!
