Round 7: Björn Krause vs. Benny Hepper
Edgar Block

Benny Hepper is one of the most famous players in Germany after winning 2004's Pharaoh Tour. Björn Krause has started to get famous lately for playing with a 50-card (or more) Burner deck, which already got him a win at the Regional in Berlin. Hepper hasn’t played for a long time, but he’s started to keep up again, and now both players are undefeated and entering round 7 with 6-0 records. Hepper’s 2 is enough to beat Krause's 1 in the die-roll, so he will start the game.

Hepper set a card to each zone and Krause showed us how to start the game in a more creative way, setting four spells or traps and a monster before passing. Hepper summoned Hydrogeddon and set a spell or trap before attacking into Des Koala. He set another spell or trap before he was done with his turn. Krause special summoned Lava Golem, causing Hepper to loose both Treeborn Frog and Hydrogeddon. Hepper chained Mystical Space Typhoon to Krause's Nightmare Wheel, targeting the Golem. Krause activated Messenger of Peace and passed.

Hepper activated Book of Moon during his draw phase to flip Lava Golem face down and set a monster. Krause attacked Lava Golem with Des Koala and was done with his turn.

Hepper drew another card and Krause activated Nightmare Wheel, targeting the Golem. Hepper summoned Tsukuyomi and flipped the Golem face down for another time. Tsukuyomi attacked Des Koala, but Krause responded with Book of Moon to get another use out of his monsters’ flip effect. Hepper set a spell or trap card, Krause set another monster and passed afterwards.

Hepper set a card to each zone and passed. Krause activated Wave-Motion Cannon and passed as well. Hepper set another monster, Krause passed without an action, Hepper flip-summoned Dekoichi the Battlechanted Locomotive and activated Nobleman of Crossout to remove his own monster, but Krause chained Solemn Judgment. Hepper had to end his turn, Krause used the Wave-Motion’s effect, flip summoned Stealth Bird, and that was the game!

Benny boarded in:
3 Wave-Motion Cannon
2 Swarm of Scarabs
1 Swarm of Locusts
2 Royal Decree
2 Mobius the Frost Monarch

Hepper started with the classic opening in the second game and set a card to each zone. Krause proved again that he's a little bit more creative by setting three spells or traps and a monster. Hepper flip summoned Spirit Reaper and activated Nobleman of Crossout, but Krause chained Magic Jammer. Hepper simply activated another Nobleman of Crossout and eventually removed Stealth Bird from game. Spirit Reaper attacked into Mirror Force, and after setting a monster, Hepper was done with his turn.

Krause set a card to each zone and passed as well. Hepper wanted to flip summon Magician of Faith, but Krause negated the summon with a costly Solemn Judgment. Hepper set a spell or trap card and was done. Krause flip-flopped Stealth Bird and set a spell or trap card. Hepper set a monster face down as well and Krause activated Nightmare Wheel. Krause flip-flopped his Bird for another time and passed. Hepper tribute summoned Jinzo and attacked into Stealth Bird. Krause activated Messenger of Peace and passed.

Hepper summoned his mighty Treeborn Frog and attacked directly. Krause topdecked into Graceful Charity and Hepper commented "Lucker!" After discarding Solemn Judgment and Nightmare Wheel, he activated Level Limit – Area B and passed. Benny tribute summoned his Mobius the Frost Monarch and destroyed Level Limit – Area B and Messenger of Peace. Jinzo was shifted to attack position and attacked directly before Hepper passed. Krause chose to play Swords of Revealing Light and Wave-Motion Cannon and passed.

It was up to Hepper to find a good topdeck and Graceful Charity seemed to be a strong answer. He discarded Royal Decree and Bottomless Trap Hole, activated his own Wave-Motion Cannon, and had to pass. Krause summoned Lava Golem and was done. Hepper revealed a face-down Pot of Avarice from his spell or trap card zone, activated another Wave-Motion Cannon and after setting a card to each zone, he was done with his turn. Krause drew his last card, thought a long time about the cards in his hand and on the field and finally scooped his cards.

Neither player wanted to use his side deck, so the match proceeded with the third duel.

Krause opted to go first, and he set down a monster and activated Swords of Revealing Light and Level Limit – Area B. Hepper said that he was looking for Nobleman of Crossout, drew his card and then activated the topdecked Nobleman immediately. Krause lost Stealth Bird, Hepper set two spells or traps and passed. Krause set another monster and was already done with his turn, so Hepper set a spell or trap card of his own, and it was up to his opponent again.

After flip-flopping Des Lacooda, Krause set a spell or trap and passed. Hepper set a spell or trap by his own and Swords of Revealing Light finally left the field. Krause flip-flopped his Des Lacooda again and set another monster, Hepper tried to activate Royal Decree, but Krause chained Solemn Judgment. Hepper had to laugh after he took a look at the cards in his hand and passed. Krause flip-flopped his Lacooda again and flip-summoned Des Koala. He attacked into Mirror Force and finished his turn with an activation of Wave-Motion Cannon and another set monster. Hepper said he finally drew into a monster, set it face down and passed. Krause flip summoned another Des Koala and activated both Cannons to win the game!

Björn Krause's more-than-50–card Burner deck build has won 2-1 against an unlucky Benny Hepper. Krause explained that his deck now has a 14-1 record, which is quite an impressive feat for a deck of more than 50 cards.
