The Beasts of Invasion of Chaos are angry. For too long, they have been downtrodden. For too long, they have been passed over by the Fiends, the Fairies, the Machines, the Warriors, and the Zombies. The forces of nature are uniting together, and their assault will be ruthless.
A Set Constructed deck focusing on the Beasts, Winged-Beasts, and Beast-Warriors of Invasion of Chaos is a deck designed around offense. Your Berserk Gorilla wants to attack, and so do his buddies. The focus of overwhelming power is what will drive this deck to victory. The deck will also feature some defensive measures in the event things go wrong, and to assist monsters like Stealth Bird and Des Kangaroo.
The other neat trick this deck offers is the ability to recover your monster after Wild Nature's Release. You know your affected monster is going to be destroyed, so some measures have been taken to address this.
Bestial Rage—Invasion of Chaos Set Constructed 40 Cards
Monsters 2 Big Koala 2 Manticore of Darkness 3 Berserk Gorilla 3 Mad Dog of Darkness 3 Enraged Battle Ox 2 Soul Tiger 2 Des Kangaroo 2 Stealth Bird
Spells 3 Wild Nature's Release 3 Smashing Ground 2 Stray Lambs 2 Yellow Luster Shield 2 Heart of the Underdog
Traps 2 Compulsory Evacuation Device 2 Destruction Ring 3 Cursed Seal of the Forbidden Spell 2 Trap Jammer
The Monsters
Berserk Gorilla and Mad Dog of Darkness will serve as the primary attackers of the deck. They're the best non-tribute monsters, and they're effective fighters. The effect of Berserk Gorilla should not concern you much, as more often than not, you will not find yourself running into anything worse than Compulsory Evacuation Device or Zero Gravity. Zero Gravity is the only trap Berserk Gorilla will fear.
So why does the deck have two Big Koalas? Here's the trick: Stray Lambs. All you have to do is activate Stray Lambs, and after it resolves successfully, you set your Big Koala by tributing the two Lamb tokens. You can also do this with Manticore of Darkness, knowing that if it is sent to the graveyard, you can use its effect to bring it right back.
Enraged Battle Ox gives your Beasts, Beast-Warriors, and Winged-Beasts the “Crushing” ability (Fairy's Meteor Crush ability). With the number of offensive monsters in this deck, combined with Wild Nature's Release, you can be sure to do some good Crushing damage.
Stealth Bird, Soul Tiger, and Des Kangaroo will combine well with Yellow Luster Shield to provide an adequate defense. Des Kangaroo will combine with Yellow Luster Shield to surprise a would-be attacker, but will cease to be effective thereafter. Stealth Bird is a countermeasure to the D. D. Borderline Decks, offering the Bestial Rage deck a way to overcome the loss of the battle phase. Soul Tiger will quickly become a fearsome offensive fighter with the use of a Wild Nature's Release.
The Spells:
Wild Nature's Release is the killer spell of the Bestial Rage deck. It can quickly take Berserk Gorilla to 3000 ATK, Mad Dog of Darkness to 3300 ATK, Manticore of Darkness to 3300 ATK, and Big Koala to a massive 4700 ATK—now that is a big Koala! Combine this with Enraged Battle Ox's effect to give these high ATK monsters Crushing damage, and you can really put the hurt on your opponent.
Smashing Ground is a good removal spell for getting the pests out of your way. It will work well against any high DEF monsters and can take out the big tribute monsters in most cases, although some tribute monsters like Giga Gagagigo and Terrorking Salmon have low DEF and might find themselves safe from its effect.
Heart of the Underdog is included for the non-Effect monsters present in the deck and will work as the deck's source of draw power. The deck has seven non-Effect monsters, so the odds are good that you will draw one of them while Heart of the Underdog is in play.
The Traps
Three Cursed Seal of the Forbidden Spell seems like a bit much, but there is a reason for this: D. D. Borderline. D. D. Borderline must be stopped. If it is put into play, the Bestial Rage deck will be at a loss to stop it, as there really is almost nothing in Invasion of Chaos that will get rid of it after-the-fact. Prevention is key.
Trap Jammer is included to stop surprise battle phase traps like Zero Gravity and Energy Drain. Many of the traps in Invasion of Chaos have no specific activation requirements, but chances are they will show up in the battle phase when you would ordinarily have no way to quickly recover from them.
Compulsory Evacuation Device serves several purposes. It is the “Trap Hole” of sorts for this deck. It can be very irritating to your opponent when their one set or summon for that turn is suddenly returned to their hand. It can also be used to return a monster you have used Wild Nature's Release on to your hand so that it is not destroyed in the end phase. Destruction Ring is also included for a similar use, only it will destroy the affected monster instead of returning it to your hand.
Cards to Consider
You can destroy your monster affected by Wild Nature's Release with Thunder Crash, but keep in mind that this will also destroy any other monster you control. You can even destroy the Lamb tokens with it for a quick 600 damage shot.
Black Luster Soldier - Envoy of the Beginning, Chaos Emperor Dragon - Envoy of the End, and Chaos Sorcerer can be added into the mix with some slight alterations to the balance of Light and Dark monsters. They do not fit the general theme of the deck, but can still serve well as tools.
The Bestial Rage deck can use the dreaded D. D. Borderline for its own purposes, setting up a stall until an army of monsters has assembled. This is really not the most effective strategy for the Bestial Rage deck, but it may fit some players' styles.
“Begone, Knave!” is another way of returning your monster affected by Wild Nature's Release to save it from destruction in the end phase. This will only work if the affected monster does battle damage to the opponent's life points, but unlike Compulsory Evacuation Device, this card is continuous and will function long-term.
Until next week . . . throw your Mad Dog of Darkness a bone.
