Scrub Brush Challenge Update — Round 9!

Ok, well . . . they’ve only got one round after this to redeem themselves and avoid the brush. It was looking pretty iffy in our last update, so let’s see if anyone’s got a prayer in Round 9 . . .

Anthony Alvarado SCRUBBED! Awww . . .

Val Bakalar SCRUBBED! Awww . . .

Tony Basselgia is 5-4 and is at table 53 playing Jamal Davis.

Dale Bellido SCRUBBED! Awww . . . Lazaro is still doing great!

Kenneth Cardez — SCRUBBED! Awww . . .

Cesar Gonzales is 6-3 and is at table 16 playing Paul Levitin.

Brendan “Curly” Hubster SCRUBBED! Awww . . .

Jimi Johnson is 6-3 and is at table 28 playing Oscar Hopkins.

Mike Pianka is 5-4 and is at table 49 playing Zach Campbell.

Dylan Pulver is 3-6 and is at table 104 playing Anthony Torriero (also a competitor).

Jake Pulver is 4-5 and is at table 69 playing Ben Cotter.

Carl Reuschel is 4-5 and is at table 89 playing Dujuan Jones.

John Schiavone is 5-4 and is at table 50 playing Fishell Mosquera.

Anthony Torriero is 3-6 and is at table 104 playing fellow competitor Dylan Pulver.

Well, I guess Cesar could still rally, but I think we’ll be scrubbing the rest of them. Tune in tomorrow for the Scrub Brush Aftermath!

Scrub Brush Challenge Update — Round 7!

Well, there are 2 rounds left in today’s event. Do any of our competitors stand a chance, or will they all be scrubs? Let’s see what they’re up to . . .

Anthony Alvarado SCRUBBED! Awww . . .

Val Bakalar SCRUBBED! Awww . . .

Tony Basselgia is 5-1 and is at table 15 playing Chhoeun Noun.

Dale Bellido SCRUBBED! Awww . . . His brother Lazaro is doing pretty well, though. He’s 5-1. Maybe we signed up the wrong Bellido? (We love you, Dale.)

Kenneth Cardez is 2-5, and bless his heart he’s still playing at table 155, against Ilakeashia Reed.

Cesar Gonzales is 5-1 and is at table 5 playing Daniel Barbacoff.

Brendan “Curly” Hubster SCRUBBED! Awww . . .

Jimi Johnson is 5-1 and is at table 17 playing Omar Gaspar.

Well, it looks like Cesar might pull it out of the bag, although we’ve got a few x-1s at this point who are moving up the ranks. There’s 3 rounds left, so who knows? Look for another update during Round 9!

Scrub Brush Challenge Update — Round 5!

All right, we’re heading into the “halfway” round — it’s time to check in with our competitors. Does anyone still stand a chance?

Tony Basselgia is 3-1 and is at table 33 playing Brian Walls.

Well, it looks like several of our competitors have decided to drop, now that side events are in full swing. We don’t have any undefeated competitors this time, so we’re probably looking at a pretty sizeable gallery of scrub pics. Check back Round 7, where I’ll bring you another look at how these guys are doing.

Scrub Brush Challenge Boston

We’re back with all the drama, excitement, and pointing and laughing at others that we’ve come to expect from the Scrub Brush Challenge. It’s a beautiful day here in Boston, but that didn’t stop five hundred + players from spending the day indoors, and I’ve got sixteen of these guys eager to compete in the Challenge. Let’s meet today’s competitors!

Anthony Alvarado, 19 years old from New Jersey, is here representing Team Overdose. Anthony was a winner at our last Challenge in Hamilton, so let’s see what he’s got in store for us today.

Val Bakalar, 21 years old from Coral Springs, Florida is a legally ordained cleric and he’s here as a Brave Individual.

Tony Basselgia, 18 years old from Lebanon, Pennsylvania is here representing Team nYo. Incidentally I think nYo was the first Yu-Gi-Oh! team I ever met.

Dale Bellido, 20 years old from Mississauga, Ontario, is here representing Team Superfriendz. His hair is as flawless as ever, and he should have a deck profile up today.

Kenneth Cardez, 25 years old from Ridgewood, Queens, New York, is here representing Team BTA.

Cesar Gonzales, 18 years old from Springfield, Massachusetts, is here as a Brave Individual.

Brendan “Curly” Hubster. 13 years old from West Hartford, Connecticut, is here as a Brave Individual. I see him all over the place.

Jimi Johnson, 14 years old from Booth Bay, Maine, is here as a Brave Individual. He is a heavy online player.

Mike Pianka, 18 years old from Watertown, Connecticut, is here as a Brave Individual. I’m going to get the scoop on that shirt before the day is out.

Dylan Pulver, 12 years old from Great Neck, New York, is here representing Team Leaf Ninja. Don’t confuse him with:

Jake Pulver, his twin brother! Also 12 (obv) from Great Neck, New York, and also representing Team Leaf Ninja. This is the first Shonen Jump appearance for this team.

First sjc for their team, they hope to Top 8 the entire team.

Carl Reuschel, 16 years old from New Hampshire, is here representing Team Str8 Up.

John Schiavone. 21 years old from Far Rockaway, New York, is here representing Team BTA.

Anthony Torriero, 22 years old from Long Island, NY is here representing Team GM.

There you have them. We’ve got 16 people in the Challenge, so we know that at least half of them are guaranteed to scrub. Keep checking in with the updates, to find out how your favorites are faring!
