We certainly seem to have a hit on our hands—the response to the Ultimate Duelist Challenge series has been overwhelmingly positive. We’ve asked you to do all sorts of things over the course of March for a chance to win a box. But today, you’re going to have to take your opponent down to 0 life points by the end of your first battle phase. Before you start saying “That’ll be easy! I’ve done that in duels before,” make sure you read the fine print.
Both you and your opponent will begin the duel with 8000 life points each, and a normal-sized opening hand of five cards. That’s all fair enough, right?
We don’t want to hand boxes of cards out to just anyone, though, so let’s make things a bit harder. You may not increase the attack of any of the monsters on your side. You may not use spell or trap effects to destroy, negate, or remove any of your opponent's cards from the field. You also may not manipulate your opponent’s life points in any way, other than through battle damage.
In order to win, you must attack on turn 2, and win before the end of your battle phase.
You know, I don’t think this is hard enough yet to count as an Ultimate Duelist Challenge. Let’s complicate it a bit more.
You will go first. You may set or summon one monster and up to five spell or trap cards. Your opponent, Bob, will then begin his turn. Bob will normal summon King Tiger Wanghu, then play Graceful Charity, discarding another King Tiger Wanghu and Mokey Mokey. He will then use Premature Burial to special summon a second King Tiger Wanghu. Bob will then set Mirror Force, Magic Cylinder, and two copies of Sakuretsu Armor, which he will activate as needed, in the listed order.
You may not prevent him from making these defined turn one actions, and in the draw phase of turn two both King Tiger Wanghu and all of the opponent’s set cards must still be on the field.
Hmm . . . it’s still not hard enough. I know!
You may only ever control one monster at a time. That’s more like it!
This challenge will be conducted using the current Advanced format list, and all Upper Deck tournament rules are also in effect.
The following cards are forbidden:
Black Luster Soldier – Envoy of the Beginning
Magical Merchant
Morphing Jar #2
Cyber Jar
Morphing Jar #1
Dark Magician of Chaos
Behemoth the King of All Animals
The Usual Details
Make sure you follow these submission rules carefully. Even if you’ve got a massively brilliant entry, if you don’t follow the submission rules we’ll have to throw it out. It’s terrible to lose over a technicality, but we get a massive amount of entries to screen. Make sure your entry survives the first round of screenings by adhering to the rules!
Please put “Ultimate Duelist Challenge #4” in the subject line of your email. There are no points to count for this challenge!
Begin by stating your opening hand, and then give a step-by-step breakdown of what hits the field and when. Be precise and clear—if we can’t understand your sequence, you’re probably not going to win the challenge.
Don’t forget to include your full name and mailing information. We can’t send you your prize without it, and you know you want that booster box.
Please only enter once. Additional entries will void all entries you submit.
Entries should be submitted to contest@metagame.com and must be received by Friday, April 22 at 5:00 pm EST. Good luck!
