It’s over! A field of 749 competitors has played through ten rounds here today, and a final Top 16 remain.
“Impressive” does not begin to describe the Day 2 field. Team Overdose put forth a stellar showing, with Dale Bellido, Lazaro Bellido, and Adam Corn all making the cut. US Team Dueling National Champion Tom Mak, now-repeated Top 16 competitor Jose Arocho, Robert Ackerman, and Nationals Top 8 duelist Frank Schifano round out the lineup, with rising stars like Michael Kohanim and Tariq Williams also making it.
Four different decks made the Top 16. Two competitors qualified with Dark Armed Dragon-centric strategies, three with Monarchs, and three more with Lightsworn. The remaining eight competitors played the number one pick here this weekend, and there certainly aren’t any surprises — Gladiator Beasts took half the Day 2 field! Will they win yet another event? Will the Lightsworn make it past Top 16? And can the once-dominant Dark Armed Dragon ever regain its stop at the top of the heap? We’ll find answers to those questions and more tomorrow, as we bring you extended coverage from Day 2!
Players must report to the tournament venue tomorrow at 9 AM, and competition will begin at 10 AM sharp. Less than twelve hours remain between now and the Top 16 playoffs, and by this time tomorrow, we’ll have a brand new Shonen Jump Champion!
