What a day! We were expecting innovation and a brand new metagame here at Shonen Jump San Mateo, and the 472 competitors in contention here at the San Mateo Expo Center didn’t disappoint!
Day 2 will see a whopping eight different strategies face off to claim dominant roles in the current format. As predicted, it was Destiny Hero builds of Light and Darkness Dragon that took top honors here today, bringing an incredible seven duelists to Day 2 glory. Macro Cosmos, the Dragon deck’s foil, got three duelists qualified for the Top 16. From there the rest of tomorrow’s field consists of Baboon Burn, Zombies, Dark Burn, Mystic Tomato Monarchs, Demise OTK, and Volcanic Monarchs with one representative each. The field is wide open and incredibly varied.
The star power of tomorrow’s competition is dazzling. Hugo Adame will face Chris Moosman, Justin Trias will duel Jerry Wang, and Adam Corn will face off against the defending San Mateo champ, Fili Luna. Other names include David Rodriguez, John Umali, Chris Pittao, and Eric Wu. Experience really won out today, but the rising stars of tomorrow’s lineup shouldn’t be underestimated, and duelists like Trent Kittle and Charley La are strong bets for a title win.
Will Light and Darkness Dragon capture the title? Will Fili Luna defend his Championship and claim his third Shonen Jump trophy? We’ll answer those questions and many, many more tomorrow at 11 AM, as we bring you live coverage from Day 2 of Shonen Jump Championship San Mateo!
