The renewed focus on races in the Drums of War expansion has thoroughly excited me. With relation to allies, it's an aspect of the game that hasn't been emphasized much thus far, and it's refreshing to think in a new direction. Several of the mechanics tied to races look interesting, but I think the one that will benefit the most from a focused strategy is diplomacy. The Alliance faction is already great at swarming the board with troublesome allies, and reducing the cost of the little buggers gives you a heavy advantage. “Black Ice” Fizzlefreeze decks used a big field to force through Myriam Starcaller–fueled kills, with interrupts to protect that board position, and the strategy is nothing new. Simply attacking quickly using an untargetable rush strategy is another way to build such a deck.
