This feature match pits two players you probably already know against each other. Fili Luna, the newest addition to the team Face2Face, sports some of the best credentials in the game, including three Shonen Jump wins. Mario’s made it all the way to the finals before, and plays for CO. Fili won the rolls and elected to go first.
Destiny Draw was his opening play, discarding Destiny Hero – Dasher. He set a spell or trap and a monster before passing. Mario opened with Golden Sarcophagus, selecting Elemental Hero Stratos. He brought Stratos out with Dimension Fusion and searched for Destiny Hero – Malicious from his deck. He set a spell or trap before playing Destiny Draw, which discarded the Malicious. Fili bluffed a Crush Card Virus, and Mario seemed to buy it saying, “now?” Fili shook his head, and Mario summoned Spirit Reaper.
Fili flipped Torrential Tribute though, blocking the play and sending Sangan to the graveyard to find Snipe Hunter from his deck. Mario set a second spell or trap card, which was Trap Dustshoot, and it sent the Hunter away after Fili played Allure of Darkness. Fili removed Dark Grepher over two copies of D.D. Crow and Destiny Hero – Disk Commander, and passed with one set spell or trap card.
Mario started off his turn by removing Malicious to find another one. A pair of Allure of Darkness’ came down for Mario next, and he removed Sangan and Destiny Hero – Dasher from play for their effects. He followed up with Monster Reborn on Fili’s Dasher. He tributed both monsters for Light and Darkness Dragon! He attacked afterward, and Fili simply set a monster on his turn before passing.
It was the Disk Commander, which was revealed when Mario swung him down next turn. Fili set a pair of spell or traps on his turn, and Mario swung directly once more. Fili passed, and Mario attacked. Fili flipped Mind Crush, which was negated by the Dragon, and then played Scapegoat. Mario hit a token and passed.
Fili set a second spell or trap card before passing to Mario, who hit a Sheep token. Fili special summoned Dark Armed Dragon next turn, and used priority to target the spell or trap card with Dark Armed Dragon. It was negated and Light and Darkness Dragon dropped by 500 ATK. Fili did it again to remove Sangan, and then used D.D. Crow to force a negation once more. Light and Darkness Dragon was out of things to negate, so Fili targeted the back row for destruction for real this time. It was Enemy Controller, and Mario chained it to switch Dark Armed Dragon to defense.
Next Fili played Dark Grepher, discarding to send Dark Magician of Chaos to his graveyard. The Magician was removed to destroy the Reaper. Mario dropped D.D. Crow to remove the final Dark from Fili’s graveyard, hoping to prevent him from winning. Fili flipped Return from the Different Dimension though, and brought back Destiny Hero – Dasher for his fifth monster. Dasher tributed a goat for an extra 1000 ATK, and Fili flipped his other set card, another Return, to bring back Dark Magician of Chaos and attack for the game.
With just the right cards Fili Luna storms back from a game that appeared to be out of his grasp to win the first game.
Mario opened up the second game with Destiny Draw and a pair of set spell or trap cards. Fili responded in kind, setting two spell or traps before passing. Mario summoned Spirit Reaper, which forced out Torrential Tribute from Fili, and flipped Trap Dustshoot to send back Dark Grepher over Dark Magician of Chaos and Dark Armed Dragon. Fili passed his turn and Mario special summoned Dark Grepher on his.
The cost was paid with Dark Magician of Chaos, who was brought back thanks to Monster Reborn. Reborn then also revived Destiny Hero – Disk Commander. Mario used Grepher’s effect to send Destiny Hero - Malicious to his graveyard. That meant he could special summon Dark Armed Dragon and have enough ATK points for game.
Mario takes game 2 quickly with the power cards that make Dark Grepher so good.
Fili opened up the final game by playing Destiny Draw and discarding Destiny Hero – Malicious. Allure of Darkness was next, getting Dark Magician of Chaos out of play, and another Destiny Draw put the second Malicious into the graveyard. Fili then played another two Allure’s, removing Jinzo and Darklord Zerato from play. He then played Reinforcement of the Army for Elemental Hero Stratos, who was summoned and used to fetch Destiny Hero – Disk Commander. Fili passed with one set spell or trap and his Stratos.
Mario began his next turn well aware that it could be his last of this match if he didn’t play it right. Fili had seen a tremendous amount of cards on his first turn and had 8000 ATK points in his removed-from-play pile. Mario reluctantly set one in each zone though and passed to Fili.
Fili went into the tank on his turn while Mario turned to stone to prevent giving off any reads. Fili decided to set a monster before passing back to Mario. Mario played Heavy Storm after lots of thinking, destroying Mind Crush from Fili and his own D.D.R. – Different Dimension Reincarnation. Next Monster Reborn allowed him to take Fili’s Malicious and summon Light and Darkness Dragon. He hit Stratos and passed.
This Dragon meant Fili had to dip into the think tank once more, and when he finally came out it was to tribute his face-down Destiny Hero – Disk Commander for Destiny Hero – Dasher. He then special summoned a pair of Dark Armed Dragons from hand. He removed Malicious to trigger Light and Darkness, and then attacked over it with a Dark Armed Dragon. Mario special summoned Destiny Hero – Disk Commander with its effect, but Fili simply ran it down with Dasher and struck for another 2800 with his other Dragon. He followed up with Premature Burial on Destiny Hero – Disk Commander and passed, deciding to leave the Commander on the field instead of tributing it to Dasher.
Mario opened his turn with two copies of Reinforcement of the Army for two Dark Grephers. He special summoned one by discarding Destiny Hero – Dasher, and discarded the other to put Dark Magician of Chaos in his graveyard. Prometheus, King of the Shadows came down next and got very big. He removed four monsters to pump up to 2800 ATK. Then he played Dimension Fusion, grabbing Dark Magician of Chaos, Dasher, and Disk Commander. Mario attempted to get Monster Reborn back, but Fili responded with D.D. Crow to remove it. Fili got his own Magician from the Dimension Fusion, and brought Allure of Darkness back with it.
Mario pumped his Dasher up by tributing the Disk Commander and was now able to deal with Fili’s stuff. Prometheus and Dark Magician of Chaos bumped with Dark Armed Dragon and Fili’s Magician, while Dasher took out the last Dragon and Grepher attacked over Fili’s defense mode Dasher. Mario passed with just two monsters.
Time had been called on Mario’s turn, so Fili was going to get two turns to keep his life points higher than Mario’s. He tributed for Destiny Hero – Dasher and took out Grepher. Mario drew Premature Burial but Fili had another D.D. Crow.
Fili Luna defeats Mario Matheu to move on undefeated.
