After a long hiatus, Jerry Wang is back in Day 2 of a Shonen Jump Championship! But his opponent, Guy Israel was the 2005 National Champion of Belgium and went undefeated yesterday. Could Jerry continue his streak, or would Israel claim another win for Belgium?
“He’s gonna open up with Trap Dustshoot,” Wang predicted. Sure enough, Guy revealed it, then set it and a monster. Next turn, the Dustshoot revealed Wang’s Trap Dustshoot, Mirror Force, Premature Burial, Dekoichi the Battlechanted Locomotive, Torrential Tribute, and Cyber Dragon. Cyber Dragon was shuffled back, and Wang proceeded to set a card to each zone.
Israel flip summoned Dekoichi the Battlechanted Locomotive, drew, and attacked, hitting Wang’s Dekoichi. “This sucks,” remarked Wang. Israel set a card to each zone and activated Trap Dustshoot next turn, revealing Wang’s newly-drawn Nobleman of Crossout but no monster! Nobleman ripped Israel’s second Dekoichi off the field, and a third from his deck, as well as one of Wang’s. Wang had no follow-up though, and passed.
He took 1400 damage next turn from Dekoichi, and Israel set another spell or trap. Wang special summoned Cyber Dragon and ran over Dekoichi: the duel stood at 7300 to 6600. Wang ended and Guy was up.
Brain Control hit the field and Wang forked over Cyber Dragon. Israel tributed it for Raiza the Storm Monarch: “Mirror Force, back on top,” he announced, targeting Wang’s back-row card with Raiza. The Monarch attacked directly, Israel set a spell or trap, and Wang was left to set two to his back row next turn.
A third spell or trap was added to end Wang’s turn: Israel flipped Heavy Storm on the turn that followed, and Wang chained Mind Crush, guessing blind! He named Cyber Phoenix, and didn’t find a hit. He lost Premature Burial as a result, then lost Mirror Force and Torrential Tribute to Heavy Storm, while Israel lost Call. Raiza hit directly next turn, Israel set a spell or trap, and next turn Wang summoned Snipe Hunter. He discarded his last card, Machine Duplication, to try and destroy Raiza but missed. He gave a grin and scooped.
Guy Israel devastates Jerry Wang for a first-game victory!
Wang opened game 2 with a set card to each zone. Israel special summoned Cyber Dragon, normal summoned Card Trooper, and then activated Machine Duplication! “It was my sixth card,” he admitted. He sent nine cards total to his graveyard to power up the Troopers, losing Pot of Avarice, Limiter Removal, and Ring of Destruction in the process.
The first Trooper attacked, hitting Morphing Jar! Both duelists got new hands, and the two remaining Troopers and Cyber Dragon hit directly to drop Wang to 2100 life points! “Now he’s gonna Trap Dustshoot me,” winced Wang, knowing it was coming.
It did next turn, costing him Hydrogeddon over Card Trooper, and revealing Nobleman of Crossout, Call of the Haunted, Ring of Destruction, and Magic Cylinder. A second Trap Dustshoot cost him his last monster, Card Trooper, and Wang could do nothing but set three more cards to his back row.
Israel shifted all three copies of Card Trooper to defense mode. He set a monster and ended, and Wang activated Nobleman of Crossout to remove Israel’s set Spirit Reaper. Snatch Steal let him take one of the Troopers, and he activated its effect to send Dekoichi, Mind Crush, and Scapegoat to the graveyard in order to boost its ATK. “End my turn,” he stated, not attacking.
Israel went to 9000 life points. He set a monster and ended, and Wang dropped Card Trooper, Cyber Phoenix, and Cyber Dragon with his pilfered Trooper. Play was back to Israel, who went to 10000 life points. He set another monster and ended.
Wang pumped Trooper, this time losing his Mirror Force. Israel went to 11000 life points and activated Heavy Storm! Wang chained Call of the Haunted, targeting Jinzo, and the field was wiped. Israel immediately revealed Smashing Ground to destroy Jinzo, and Wang quickly gave him the handshake.
Team Etcetera member Guy Israel destroys Jerry Wang, moving on to the Top 4!
“Jerry’s on probation!” shouted Anthony Alvarado from the sidelines. Wang laughed as he packed up his cards and congratulated Israel.
