Jordan Nasser is returning once again to the Duel Dome after his third-round match against Tray Massinger. We didn’t get to see much in the way of Gadgets from his Doomcaliber Knight build, but what better way to give him another chance to showcase it than against the defending National Champion, Adam Corn? Adam wanted to give a shout-out to his friends Alonzo, Chris, and Sean before the match began, and both players pile-shuffled deliberately and repeatedly before shaking hands and rolling.
Nasser won the roll and opted to start the game with Banisher of the Radiance and a set spell or trap. Adam drew for his turn and activated Allure of Darkness, drawing two and removing D.D. Crow to finish the effect. Soul Exchange tributed the Banisher for Thestalos, and Nasser lost a Red Gadget from his hand. Unable to battle, Corn passed his turn to Nasser, who seemed rather distraught until he summoned Green Gadget to replace the Red one he had lost.
Soul Taker came down, blasting Thestalos and giving Adam 1000 bonus life points before the Gadget swung directly. Adam used his other Allure of Darkness card on the following turn, removing Mask of Darkness from play and setting a monster before passing. Doomcaliber Knight came down and attacked into a set Gravekeeper’s Spy! The Knight tributed itself to negate the Spy, and the Gadget swung directly. Adam set another monster and passed over to Nasser, who was clearly getting into the groove of things. He quickly dropped Red Gadget and searched for the Yellow one before attacking into Adam’s Dekoichi and swinging directly with Green Gadget. Brain Control targeted Green Gadget, and Adam attacked with the pilfered Gadget before tributing it for Raiza. Book of Moon was chained to the Monarch’s effect, and Adam set Solemn Judgment before passing.
Nasser was up, and he dropped Cyber Dragon. Corn used Solemn Judgment to negate it, dropping to 2000, and Yellow Gadget came down for Nasser, fetching him a Green one. He backed it up with a spell or trap, and Adam pondered his options with a sideways glance. He set a monster and Banisher came down for Nasser, removing Corn’s Sangan which allowed Yellow Gadget to drop the defending Champion to less than 1000. Adam picked up his next card, then picked up the rest of his cards, and it was on to game 2! After a strong start, Adam Corn falls to a key Doomcaliber Knight!
Both players side decked quickly and then spent the rest of their between-game time shuffling. Adam opted to go first. He started with Allure of Darkness, removing Dark Armed Dragon before setting a card to each zone and passing. Mystical Space Typhoon targeted Adam’s set Reckless Greed and he chained it, drawing two. Drillroid came down and swung at Jujitsu Master, destroying it without damage calculation. Nasser backed up his Drillroid with a spell or trap and passed back to Adam, who quickly targeted it with Soul Exchange to tribute it for Prime Material Dragon. Jordan Nasser was back up, and he added a second card to his back row before passing. Adam skipped his draw and attacked, but Dimensional Prison removed the Dragon from play! It couldn’t use its effect to stop the Prison, and Doomcaliber Knight came down for Nasser to swingfor 1900. Cyber Valley came down for Adam, and he backed it up with a spell or trap before passing. Fissure destroyed Cyber Valley and Mirror Force took down the Knight on its attack.
Adam was off the clock from Reckless Greed, and he set a monster before passing over to Jordan. Jordan passed back, and Corn flipped Mask of Darkness to retrieve Reckless Greed. He tributed the Mask for another Prime Material Dragon, but this Nasser flipped Bottomless Trap Hole! Adam pitched a Bottomless of his own to negate it with Prime Material Dragon, and then set a spell or trap before passing. Nasser set two cards to his back row and passed over to Adam, who connected for 2400 before adding a second card to his back row and passing. Nasser mumbled something under his breath and set two spell or trap cards before ending. Monster Reborn from Adam Corn targeted Drillroid, and Nasser allowed it but flipped Bottomless Trap Hole to try and remove it from play. Adam pitched Torrential Tribute to negate the Trap Hole and Dimensional Prison tried to remove it from play. Solemn Judgment blocked the Prison, but Book of Moon in a new chain saved the game. Drillroid still swung direct, but when it was tributed for Thestalos in main phase 2, Pulling the Rug saved the day!
Green Gadget came down for Nasser next turn, searching out a Red, but Nasser forgot the defense of Prime Material Dragon! Adam activated Reckless Greed in response to the attack of the Gadget, and the Gadget bounced off the 2000 DEF of the Dragon! Lightning Vortex came down next from Nasser, but the Dragon negated it and then attacked for game next turn! Jordan Nasser almost battles back from overwhelming odds, but this match was going to a third game!
Both players looked back to their side decks again. Nasser was looking for more outs to the Prime Material Dragon, and the side decking took a lot longer this time. It was Nasser’s choice to begin the third game, and he started off with Fossil Dyna Pachycephalo and a set spell or trap.
Adam’s first move was Soul Exchange and tributing for Thestalos the Firestorm Monarch, robbing Nasser’s hand of Dimensional Prison. Corn set a spell or trap, and play was to Nasser. He passed, and Adam swung with Thestalos, only to be denied by Mirror Force. He set a monster, and Doomcaliber Knight came down for Nasser. It fell into a Bottomless Trap Hole, however, and Nasser left to set a spell or trap before flip-summoning Gravekeeper’s Spy. Jordan took 2400 damage, and Adam set three spell or trap cards before passing. Banisher of the Radiance came down for Nasser, but he swung straight into a Mirror Force! Banisher was blown away, and Nasser set a second spell or trap before passing. Adam drew, swung with both Spies, and then set a third card to his back row again. Nasser set a third card and Corn was content to swing for another 2400. Soul Taker whacked one of the Spies, and a fourth card was added to Nasser’s back row. Corn tried to attack for game, and Nasser considered whether or not he wanted to lose. He didn’t, so he used Shrink to reduce the damage to slightly below lethal levels. Smashing Ground came down to rid the field of the other Spy, but Nasser had no monsters and had to set a fourth spell or trap card. Corn used two copies of Reckless Greed to draw four cards before finally drawing into Heavy Storm and losing everything. Monster Reborn came down for Adam Corn to seal the deal. Adam Corn defeats Jordan Nasser, 2-1!
