It all came down to this. After a long day, only two duelists were left to battle for the single copy of Des Vostgalph printed in German! Jörg, one of our table judges commented, “The first time Vitali doesn't drop in the Swiss rounds, he reaches the finals!” This signaled the kick-off for the final playoff between Matho Müller and Vitali “-=Evangelion=-“ Petrouchanski, from the Russian Elite Force located in Frankfurt.
Petrouchanski went first and set a card to each zone. Müller summoned D.D. Survivor, activated Nobleman of Crossout to take out Spirit Reaper, and attacked into a Sheep, leaving Petrouchanski with three tokens. After setting a spell or trap, he passed, followed by another pass by his opponent. After summoning Sangan and the following attacks, only one Sheep token was left. Petrouchanski set a card, had another look at it, then took down D.D. Survivor with Exiled Force.
Müller got the chance to strike again and summoned Spirit Reaper. Sangan went for the last token and Spirit Reaper forced Petrouchanski to discard Premature Burial. Petrouchanski continued playing defensively, as he only set a monster and passed. Müller also slowed down, set a monster together with another spell or trap, and passed. Petrouchanski flipped Gravekeeper’s Spy, summoned another Spy, and offered the attack position Gravekeeper for Mobius the Frost Monarch. He destroyed Book of Moon and Sakuretsu Armor in the process, but the Monarch was flipped face-down. Müller passed, feeling comfortable behind his monsters and inviting his opponent for another attack. Petrouchanski flipped the Frost Monarch face up again, activated Reinforcement of the Army to fetch Don Zaloog, and after Mobius took Sangan down, Petrouchanski was done with his turn.
Sangan fetched a Don Zaloog for Müller and then he targeted Mobius the Frost Monarch with Snatch Steal. Petrouchanski wasn’t happy with his Monarch working for his opponent, so he activated Widespread Ruin after Müller declared an attack, and the turn ended. Petrouchanski set another monster as Müller switched his Spirit Reaper back to defense position, set another monster and passed. Breaker the Magical Warrior marked the start of Petrouchanski's comeback. He shot down Sakuretsu Armor and attacked into another Spirit Reaper, much to his dislike. Müller summoned Don Zaloog, attacked into Gravekeeper's Spy after he forced it to change position with an Enemy Controller, and Petrouchanski lost Mystic Swordsman LV2. Strike Ninja attacked into Don Zaloog and Petrouchanski was done. Müller summoned Mobius the Frost Monarch, but Blast with Chain was a great answer to the threat.
Petrouchanski still had no options to deal with Spirit Reaper. Müller wasn't able to attack either and passed. The player from Frankfurt flipped D.D. Warrior Lady, but Torrential Tribute eventually cleared the field. Strike Ninja took a short break in the removed from game zone, then Petrouchanski summoned Don Zaloog and attacked into Sakuretsu Armor. Müller had another chance to step on the gas, but he only set another monster, activated Swords of Revealing Light, and passed. Petrouchanski didn’t seem like he wanted to attack either, just set a spell or trap and passed. His opponent drew into a new card and passed either. Dark Hole cleared the field another time, Strike Ninja shifted for another time, Petrouchanski set a monster and passed.
Müller fetched D.D. Survivor after some consideration and graveyard-checking with Reinforcement of the Army, summoned the Warrior and attacked Strike Ninja. Sakuretsu Armor was supposed to make sure the Ninja would see another turn, but Müller summoned Chaos Sorcerer and removed the annoying monster once and for all. Petrouchanski set a card to each zone and Swords of Revealing Light finally left the field. Müller attacked with Chaos Sorcerer into Mystic Tomato, Petrouchanski searched Sangan out of his deck, then Müller summoned another Chaos Sorcerer in the second main phase and removed Sangan. Exiled Force shot down another set monster and Müller passed after this very aggressive turn. Petrouchanski continued playing defensively as he set another monster and passed.
Müller's first Chaos Sorcerer revealed Spirit Reaper. He tried to remove the Zombie with his other Sorcerer, but Book of Moon rescued the Reaper. Reinforcement of the Army got D.D. Survivor for Petrouchanski, then he summoned Strike Ninja and attacked into D. D. Assailant. Another attack and remove turn from Müller succeeded and Spirit Reaper left the field. Petrouchanski activated Swords of Revealing Light and passed. Mystical Space Typhoon destroyed the Swords and Müller was able to deal a lot of damage, but after that he was done with his turn. Petrouchanski summoned D.D. Survivor and set another spell or trap, then he passed. Müller's first Chaos Sorcerer attacked into Sakuretsu Armor and the second one succeeded in taking out the Survivor. Another set from Vitali and Müller got another chance. He attacked into Widespread Ruin and was done, so Petrouchanski was finally able to bring both of the Sorcerers down. In his turn, the Russian only set another card and Müller answered with Premature Burial, bringing back Mobius the Frost Monarch.
The Monarch attacked, but Petrouchanski forced the replay with Call of the Haunted for a Mobius the Frost Monarch of his own. Müller activated Smashing Ground in the second main phase and passed. Petrouchanski activated Snatch Steal and gained control over his opponent’s Mobius the Frost Monarch. He attacked into Scapegoat and left his opponent with three Sheep tokens before he was done with his turn. Müller felt comfortable with all the Sheep in front of him and passed. Petrouchanski shot down one token after another and both players set a few cards in the process. After the last token left the field, Müller activated Dark Hole to take down the Monarch, then played Call of the Haunted for Mobius again and attacked into Enemy Controller. Mystical Space Typhoon destroyed Bottomless Trap Hole and cleared the field for Petrouchanski's Cyber Dragon, destroying Mobius the Frost Monarch.
Müller answered with a Cyber Dragon of his own, forced the trade, and was done with his turn. Petrouchanski set another card and after he passed, Müller counted the remaining cards in both players’ decks (six cards each). He passed and Petrouchanski set a monster. Müller had another Cyber Dragon, destroying the set Magician of Faith, returning Premature Burial from Petrouchanski's graveyard. Müller set another spell or trap and passed. His opponent activated Premature Burial to bring Mobius back yet another time, but Bottomless Trap Hole got rid of the Monarch once and for all.
Müller attacked into Sakuretsu Armor and set another monster. Petrouchanski attacked Magician of Faith and after both players had a look at Müller's graveyard, they agreed that Müller would win the game in the next turn with Snatch Steal.
Game Two
Both players had a look at their side decks and exchanged a few cards. Maybe they'll also follow the trend and show us some hot Burn action in the second duel.
Petrouchanski opened the second game and set a card to each zone. Müller's opening hand featured Book of Moon, Sakuretsu Armor, Don Zaloog, Mobius the Frost Monarch, Spirit Reaper and Exiled Force. Müller copied his opponent’s opening move and passed as well. Petrouchanski set another monster, Müller blew the newly set Gravekeeper's Spy up with his Exiled Force, then Petrouchanski just passed again. Spirit Reaper left the field for Mobius the Frost Monarch on Müller's side. He attacked and destroyed Stealth Bird, then set another spell or trap and passed. Petrouchanski used Snatch Steal on the Monarch, attacked for 2400 damage, set another spell or trap, and was done with his turn. His opponent summoned Mystic Swordsman LV2, destroyed a face-down Gravekeeper's Spy, and finished his turn.
The Frost Monarch risked a second attack, but was destroyed by Sakuretsu Armor, after setting another spell or trap, Petrouchanski was done with his turn. Mystic Swordsman LV2 attacked again and had to deal with another Sakuretsu Armor, but Book of Moon made sure that it would see another turn. Petrouchanski summoned his own Mobius the Frost Monarch, destroyed Mystic Swordsman LV2 and passed. Müller had a strong answer by playing Snatch Steal on Mobius the Frost Monarch, summoning Don Zaloog and attacking directly for some damage and discarding Exiled Force in the process.
Petrouchanski set another spell or trap, then he flipped Premature Burial, but Dust Tornado destroyed and therefore also negated the equip spell in a chain. Müller attacked with both of his monsters, set another monster and passed, leaving Petrouchanski with only a few life points. His opponent had no other option but to set another monster and Müller flipped Sangan, summoned another monster, and finished his opponent with an attack of all of his monsters!
