16.30: Day Two Update
It’s all over now and out of our nine competitors only one, Igor Kharin, made the top 8. He will be receiving an interview with Metagame.com shortly, whereas all the other participants have been framed with our Scrub Brush!
Well, half of them, at least! In a rather unsporting manner, half of them ran off early as to avoid his picture being taken. That’s not the kind of attitude we like to produce, but sadly, we can’t stop it!
Coming in ninth must hurt, but the brush takes no prisoners!
Scrubbing out with his friends!
Kaiba takes the opportunity to scrub Olly!
He sure looks happy for someone who's holding that scrub brush!
20.00: Scrub Brush Update after Day 1
Well, we have our Day One standings up for the end of round seven. It already looks like some of our competitors will be scrubbing with the brush tomorrow, whereas some are still very much in the running! Sensitivity is not an element for our UK Scrub Brush, Scrubby McScrub, so it will hold no prisoners tomorrow! As for now though, let’s see how our participants are getting on after Day One.
Dez Clarke: It looks like Dez is definitely looking at things up close and personal with the brush! He is on two wins and currently in 129th place
Duncan Tang: Duncan is still in with a very strong chance, and goes into Day Two on five wins and in thirteenth place.
Igor Kharin: Igor is “schooling these noobz, baby” as he likes to make a point of. He is currently sitting in fourth place with six wins, and his Cyber-Stein build is looking pretty strong and consistent!
Stuart Lawrence: Stuart Lawrence’s “not meta, but beta!” deck is keeping him steady in sixteenth place with five wins.
Olly Ford: Olly is sitting pretty at five wins in 40th place. He has a chance to hit the Top 8, but he may be getting up close and personal with our Scrub Brush!
Jamie Stafford: Jamie has four wins and is placed 66th as it is. The brush awaits!
Ping Xiao: Ping is 108th right now with three wins. It looks like he’ll be joining Jamie and Dez…
Hubert Cheung: Hubert has two wins and is 128th right now.
Lee Heron: Lee is 136th and has two wins as it stands . . . he’ll be one of those scrubbing away or so it seems!
Stay tuned tomorrow as we cover all the rest of the action!
13.30: Scrub Brush Challenge Update!
It’s half past one here now and our Scrub Brush participants are all still in the competition and having fun. It’s serious business, though, and this is how our entrants are doing at the start of Round 4.
Dez Clarke: Has 1 win and is currently playing Stephen Hutchinson on table 57.
Duncan Tang: Has 3 wins and is playing Joshua Perkins on table 4.
Hubert Cheung: Is on table 34 playing Ricky Wu, and has 2 wins.
Igor Kharin: Playing against Louis Aguilar on table 6, with a perfect record of 3 wins.
Jamie Stafford: Has 2 wins and is on table 43, duelling Andrew Cummins.
Lee Heron: Is playing Michael Ryback on table 84 with 1 win.
Olly Ford: Currently on 2 wins and on table 44 against Daniel Forrest.
Ping Xiao: Has 1 win and is playing Adam Selfridge on table 62.
Stuart Lawrence: Is on 3 wins and is playing Philip McCoy on table 11.
As you can see, a lot of our contenders are still well in the running for making Day Two and possibly even the Top 8, but only time will tell. As the rounds get tenser, we move closer to finding out who will find glory, and who will find a brush at the end of their story!
10.00: The Metagame.com Scrub Brush Challenge!
As seen at Shonen Jump Championship Baltimore, the Scrub Brush Challenge is back, and at a National Championship! Nine players all who contribute a different aspect to game have applied and taken up our challenge to see who can back up their claim that they can make the Top 8 today. With a complete mixture of unknown players, duelists who consider themselves mediocre, and highly ranked and well-known competitors taking part, it’s sure to be great fun, and at least one person is guaranteed to be brushing up today!
For those who are unaware, the Scrub Brush Challenge is a chance to find out whether those bold enough to claim they can take a spot in the Top 8 here today can put words into action. For those successful, they’ll receive an exclusive interview with Metagame.com—however, those who fall short will have to have a picture taken with the Metagame.com UK Scrubbing Brush, and will be subjected to eternal humiliation. Well, maybe not, but it will give us all a laugh anyway.
On to the entrants for today:
Dez Clarke: An eighteen-year-old Birmingham local, Dez has made a name for himself by finishing in the Top 16 of Nationals last year without Black Luster Soldier – Envoy of the Beginning in his deck.
Duncan Tang: Duncan is also known as “The Dancing Love Machine” and hails from Scotland. After missing his Top 8 spot last year due to losing to Ryan Henderson, the thirteen-year-old wonder kid, Duncan is back this year with a vengeance!
Hubert Cheung: Hubert wants to show everyone that Hong Kong style will be able to do extremely well in the UK Nationals, but will he be scrubbing with the Brush today?
Igor Kharin: This is Igor’s second big event, and at the Pharaoh Tour Finals he apparently “scrubbed so hard that Olympia Conference Centre didn’t need cleaning staff for a month.” He’s looking to make a big impression this time.
Jamie Stafford: Jamie is currently ranked in the top 2 in the UK and has been tussling for first place for the last few months with myself. After winning the Pharaoh Tour Finals, he has high expectations for today.
Lee Heron: Lee is an unknown duelist from Nottingham. He has been playing for just over a year and qualified from winning a City Championship. He is 29 and fancies himself as an interesting participant, if not for his secluded location, then possibly his above-average age.
Olly Ford: Olly is confident in both his deck and skills this year and wants to compete with the very best in order to conquer and make the Top 8 today. Will he get an adrenaline rush, or get up close and personal with the scrub brush?
Ping Xiao: Ping is from Plymouth and has only been playing for a few months. Could today be his day?
Stuart Lawrence: Stuart is well known for staying well away from cookie-cutter decks and playing his trustworthy Rock deck. His favorite saying is, “Not meta, but Beta” in reference to his favorite card of the moment, Beta the Magnet Warrior. Will the Rock deck shine through today, or will it be curtains for Stuart?
