Day 1 Wrap-Up
Jason Grabher-Meyer

It’s over! Destiny Heroes have made their comeback, a former Belgian National Champion is the number-one-ranked duelist going into Sunday, and Green Baboon, Defender of the Forest has cracked Day 2. What a way to send off the format!

Tomorrow, top-ranked competitor and former Belgian Champion Guy Israel will take on Sergio Zamorand in a Machine Beatdown mirror match. Zamarand is running far more Monarchs than normal, and that’s going to make this a dynamic match.

Then, Billy Brake will take his Beast deck against the returning Jerry Wang, armed with Machine Beatdown. Brake’s success so far this weekend is remarkable, but his greatest wins still may lie ahead.

Lazaro Bellido and Victor E. Reinert will go head-to-head, pitting Perfect Circle against T-Hero. It’s a classic Destiny Hero showdown, and it’s confirmation that Aster’s monsters are far from dead in this format.

Next, Corey Roberts plays Darrelle Reese in a Monarch match that will see Perfect Circle take on Card Trooper. Which is the best Monarch build? We’ll find out—at least for the day—in this match.

Meanwhile, Amjad Ibrahim faces off against Kasey Krick, while Shane Scurry—who brought an unconventional Tomato Engine Beatdown deck to the fray this weekend—will duel John Meyers and his Trooper Monarch build in the first round of the Top 16. Scurry should be well-prepared for this matchup, so Meyers has his work cut out for him.

Kenny So, owner of Comic Odyssey, has finally made it to Day 2 of a Shonen Jump. Years of attempts have finally paid off, and he’ll play Jon Moore’s Trooperless Monarch deck in round 1 tomorrow.

Finally, rising star Jeff Paura has made an impressive showing yet again with his T-Hero deck armed with Crush Card Virus. This time, he’ll tackle his biggest challenge yet: Fili Luna.

Join us tomorrow as we bring you live feature matches of the Top 16! Anything can happen, and only one thing’s for sure: Shonen Jump Indy still has a few surprises left!
