The Wait is Over!
Jason Grabher-Meyer

For weeks upon weeks, duelists have speculated endlessly as to the identity of the new prize card. The announcement of Cyber-Stein’s retirement seemed inevitable, but the long wait for the unveiling of the new championship card was unforeseen by some.

Never before have rumors raged so wildly across both Internet and local-level gaming communities. After a rising wave of guesses, theories, and far-fetched wonderings, duelists finally have their answer. Upper Deck Entertainment’s Kevin Tewart was on hand to handle the unveiling personally, and once the player meeting began, he finally drew the long wait to an end. Without further ado, the new prize card is . . .

The Legendary Dragon card, Des Volstgalph!

The assembled crowd of duelists burst into cheers. Des Volstgalph was one of the more popular and hoped-for rumors, and sure enough, UDE delivered in bringing one of the most popular Japanese cards to American shores in style!

Here’s what Des Volstgalph does. A level 6 Earth monster, it’s a 2200 ATK/1700 DEF Dragon that is stamped with the set number SJC-EN002.

Its effect is as follows:

Each time this card destroys an opponent’s monster as a result of battle and sends it to the graveyard, inflict 500 points of damage to your opponent’s life points. Also, each time either player activates a normal or quick-play spell card, increase the ATK of this card by 200 points until the end of the turn. (This effect is even applied during your opponent’s turn.)

It’s truly an incredible monster!

The announcement was quickly followed up with a statement about the reprint expectations for this awesome new prize. While Cyber-Stein was reprinted within seven months of its release, the new card’s reprinting probably won’t happen for, “At least a year, probably much longer,” according to Kevin Tewart. That’s stunningly good news for collectors and potential winners. This card is the rarest in the North American Yu-Gi-Oh! scene, and it will continue to be so for a very long time.

The unveiling of Des Volstgalph is just the first of a series of exciting announcements and goings-on today here at the SJC. With an unprecedented team representation, stunning independent personalities, and heated competition driven by the coolest prize card ever, Shonen Jump Championship Indianapolis is bound to be action-packed!
