The final match featured Wilson Luc, a member of Comic Odyssey, against Ian Wingrove and his Earth Beatdown deck. Both players, the judges, and this writer were tired from a long day of dueling, so few words were said and the final match began.
The first few turns began relatively quietly, with Wilson removing Ian’s face-down D. D. Warrior Lady with Nobleman of Crossout, the destruction of Wilson’s Warrior Lady thanks to Ring of Destruction, and the removing of Breaker the Magical Warrior from play due to Bottomless Trap Hole. Both players breezed through their turns with the summoning of monsters, the destruction of monsters with kspells and traps, and the exchanging of quick blows. The game began to slow down after Wilson played Painful Choice, which eventually led into Wilson using Change of Heart on Ian’s face-down monster, the offering of it to summon Jinzo and the attack directly with both Jinzo and Blade Knight, which was at 2000 ATK. While Ian was able to remove both Wilson’s Jinzo and Blade Knight from the field with Change of Heart and the summoning of his own Jinzo, Wilson was able to clear the field in order to use Return from the Different Dimension, which summoned Wilson’s removed D. D. Assailant and Sinister Serpent to the field. Both attacked directly to give Wilson the win.
Ian 0, Wilson 1
Ian chose to go first for the second game. He began by setting one card and summoning Berserk Gorilla. Wilson played Smashing Ground to destroy Ian’s gorilla and summoned D. D. Assailant to attack directly. He set one more card face-down before ending his turn. Ian played a Smashing Ground of his own to destroy D. D. Assailant, then summoned Breaker the Magical Warrior, whose effect triggered Wilson’s activation of Scapegoat. Breaker swung at a token before Ian ended the turn.
Wilson drew and ended his turn, while Ian summoned D. D. Warrior Lady. Both of his monsters went after two goat tokens. Ian had two set cards by the end of his turn. Wilson began his next turn with Heavy Storm, destroying Ian’s Call of the Haunted and Dust Tornado. He then summoned Tribe-Infecting Virus. Wilson discarded two cards to destroy both of Ian’s monsters, and Virus went direct. Ian destroyed the Virus with a summoned Goblin Attack Force.
Wilson played Painful Choice at the start of his next turn. After thinking about it for a while, Ian gave Wilson a Ring of Destruction. During Ian’s turn, he summoned Goblin Attack Force, which was promptly destroyed by Wilson’s Ring of Destruction when it attacked. Nimble Momonga attacked into Fiber Jar. After Fiber’s resolution, Ian played The Forceful Sentry, returning Wilson’s Black Luster Soldier – Envoy of the Beginning to his deck. He then set a monster and a card and ended his turn. Wilson summoned D. D. Warrior Lady, but Ian’s Ring of Destruction destroyed it when it attempted to attack. Wilson played Reinforcement of the Army to fetch a Warrior, then ended his turn. Ian had 900 life points while Wilson had 3900 life points.
Ian set another card and another monster. Wilson summoned D. D. Assailant], but was destroyed by Ian’s Torrential Tribute, which destroyed his own Goblin Attack Force. Ian could not recover from that trap card activation, and was brought down to zero life points when Wilson attacked directly with Don Zaloog.
