Today's feature match is between two players you might have heard of before. Adam Corn is your most recent National Champion, while Fili has made his seventh day 2 appearance in a row. He'll be switching to Team YuGiOh ETC next Jump, and is looking to make a good start. Adam won the roll and the match began.
Adam opened with a set monster and passed to Fili, who summoned Asura Priest and swung into Sangan, who fetched Destiny Hero - Disk Commander. Fili set a spell or trap, and passed, returning Asura to his hand. Corn played Destiny Draw discarding the Commander next turn, and summoned Breaker the Magical Warrior to destroy Mystical Space Typhoon before attacking for 1600. Corn set two spell or traps and passed. During Fili's draw phase, Corn flipped Mind Crush, calling out the Priest. Fili summoned his own Breaker and broke Adam's Call, which was chained to revive the Disk Commander. Fili set a spell or trap and passed to Adam.
Adam set a monster and thought for quite some time before setting two spell or trap cards. He passed to Fili, who used Phoenix Wing Wind Blast during his end phase, discarding Treeborn Frog. Fili brought back the Frog and attacked with Breaker, who struck for 1600 damage. He passed to Adam, who used his turn to play Soul Exchange, targeting Breaker and using him to summon Raiza the Storm Monarch to send Frog back to the top of Fili's deck.
Fili made the best of it though, and played Snipe Hunter discarding Treeborn Frog to target the Raiza. He missed through, and then missed again on his next discard. Finally, by discarding Crush Card Virus, he destroyed the Raiza. He attacked into Mirror Force and passed with nothing. Adam drew and was looking at four cards in hand and his spell or trap card. This wasn't looking good for Fili. Adam simply set a monster though before passing, and Fili brought back his Frog on his turn. He set a monster and passed to Adam.
Adam used his turn to Wing Blast Fili's set monster, and he set a monster and another spell or trap of his own. Fili checked his opponent's graveyard before setting the same monster again. Adam set his hand on his turn and flipped Morphing Jar, a risky play considering it could put Fili back into the game . . . He then played Destiny Draw, discarding Destiny Hero - Malicious, and removed him to special summon another one. He tributed his Frog for another Raiza, spinning the set monster to the top of Fili's deck and hitting the Frog with Malicious. Raiza struck for 2400, dropping Fili to 4000. During Fili's draw phase, Adam flipped Trap Dustshoot to rid Fili of his Raiza over Sangan. Treeborn Frog made an appearance for Fili, and Sangan dropped to destroy the Malicious. Fili passed with no backfield, knowing Adam wouldn't buy any bluffs.
Adam summoned Snipe Hunter on his turn, clearly intent on going for the win. He discarded Treeborn Frog and Foolish Burial to destroy Fili's Frog but missed both times. Things were getting interesting. He went for it though, and made the last two discards count. Then he flipped his Marshmallon and attacked for game.
Fili opened the second game with Foolish Burial, dumping Treeborn Frog into his graveyard. He passed with no other play. Adam summoned Elemental Hero Stratos to search for Destiny Hero - Malicious before attacking. He set a spell or trap card, which was blasted by Mystical Space Typhoon in Fili's draw phase. It was Phoenix Wing Wind Blast, and Adam responded with D.D. Crow to remove the Frog. Fili special summoned Cyber Dragon, used Foolish Burial to dump his own Malicious, and brought out Light and Darkness Dragon. He swung over the Stratos and passed.
Adam set a monster on his turn, which was revealed to be Marshmallon. Its effect was negated by the Dragon, who dropped to 2300. Fili passed his turn, Adam passed his, and Fili passed right back. Adam set a card to his spell or trap zone on his turn, and Fili did nothing on his. Adam passed again, and Fili did nothing with his turn again. Neither player wanted to lose and cards to get out of the lock, so the game was at a stand-off. Sure enough, Adam passed and discarded his Malicious. Fili set a spell or trap on his turn, and Adam was up next. He set a spell or trap as well, keeping his hand count at six at the end of his turn. Fili followed suit, and during his end phase Adam activated Call of the Haunted, targeting Malicious. He flipped Phoenix Wing Wind Blast, discarding Malicious and sending the Dragon to the top of Fili's deck. He then played Mystical Space Typhoon, destroying Torrential Tribute, then set a monster and a spell or trap before passing.
Fili summoned Breaker the Magical Warrior on his turn, but was met with Crush Card Virus, tributing Destiny Hero - Disk Commander. Fili chained Phoenix Wing Wind Blast, dumping a Raiza to spin the Marshmallon. Fili removed his Malicious for another one and attacked directly before setting a mystery spell or trap card. Adam set a monster on his turn, and Fili responded by setting a monster. During Adam's draw phase, he played Crush Card Virus, which dumped two Raiza's and a Light and Darkness Dragon, who bombed his field and special summoned a Disk Commander. Adam set a monster before passing. Fili passed right back, and Adam set another monster.
Fili played Destiny Draw discarding Destiny Hero - Fear Monger to draw two new cards. He passed his turn, and Adam drew another spell card before passing. Fili summoned a second Fear Monger on his turn, and attacked Adam's face down Spirit Reaper. Fili passed, and Adam flipped his Sangan to bump into the Fear Monger on his turn. He searched Treeborn Frog and set a monster face down before passing. Fili was up now, and he brought back Malicious with Fear Monger's effect in attack mode. He used Brain Control to destroy the Reaper, attacked the Frog, and removed it with D.D. Crow before tributing his monsters, the Malicious and a Marshmallon, to summon Light and Darkness Dragon. Adam set a spell or trap and passed to Fili, who swung in on the Disk Commander. Fili set a spell or trap as well and passed back to Adam.
Adam played Soul Exchange, which was negated, and chained Scapegoat to buy him some time. The Dragon beat up a token, and Fili passed. Adam set a spell or trap card, and the Dragon claimed another Sheep. Adam set another spell or trap card and passed to Fili, who wiped another Sheep out. Adam passed his next turn, and the final Sheep was removed from the field. With six cards in hand and two spell or traps, Adam certainly had more options now. He flipped Reinforcement of the Army, which was negated by the Dragon, dropping its ATK to 1800. He passed then, ending the turn with everyone confused. Fili summoned Snipe Hunter and connected directly with both his monsters, but Adam wasted a Mind Crush to reduce the Dragon even more. Fili passed, still with a single spell or trap card.
Adam summoned Snipe Hunter next turn and attacked the Dragon, and Fili's field was destroyed by the Dragon's effect. The game was put on momentary pause while the judges checked to see if D.D. Crow could be activated in the damage step. It was decided that it couldn't, and Raiza was special summoned by Fili. Adam passed after attacking the Dragon, and Fili played Pot of Avarice on his turn, but Adam blocked it with D.D. Crow, removing Snipe Hunter. Fili played Heavy Storm, and went for game. He summoned Elemental Hero Stratos, searching for Destiny Hero - Disk Commander. He discarded him to Destiny Draw, and activated Premature Burial, targeting Raiza for game. Another D.D. Crow blocked it though, and Fili attacked for some damage. He activated Trap Dustshoot during Adam’s turn, sending his only monster, Light and Darkness Dragon, back to his deck. The Dustshoot revealed that Adam also had Pot of Avarice, Premature Burial, and Brain Control in his hand. He played the Avarice, but Fili blocked it with his own Crow, removing Snipe. Adam played Premature Burial to revive the Commander and drew two new cards. He followed up that play by scooping, unable to defend himself from the next turn.
Neither player side decked for game 3 and Adam opened with Elemental Hero Stratos to search for Destiny Hero - Disk Commander. He played Destiny Draw next, and pitched a Destiny Hero - Malicious. He then played Golden Sarcophagus to search out Crush Card Virus, set a spell or trap card, and passed. Fili set a monster and a spell or trap card before passing to Adam, who activated Heavy Storm. He chained Phoenix Wing Wind Blast, discarding Light and Darkness Dragon to bounce Adam's set spell or trap card, which was revealed to be his own Wind Blast, which discarded Disk Commander to send the face down monster to the top of Fili's deck. Spirit Reaper came down to rob Fili of Reinforcement of the Army, and Fili set again on his turn.
Adam was up now, and he grabbed his Crush Card Virus to start off his turn. He went into the tank next, and summoned Elemental Hero Stratos to search Destiny Hero - Fear Monger. He set a spell or trap card and hit Morphing Jar with the Stratos. No Crush Card Virus was discarded, allowing Fili to know his opponent's spell or trap card. Reaper connected next, and robbed Fili of a D.D. Crow, and Adam played Premature Burial to revive the Commander. Fili played Torrential Tribute to destroy the field and Adam played Foolish Burial for his Treeborn Frog. He set another spell or trap and passed to Fili.
Fili played Foolish Burial for his Treeborn Frog on his turn, and summoned Spirit Reaper and connected directly, taking Brain Control from Adam. Fili passed with no other plays. Adam rid the field of the Reaper with Soul Exchange and passed to Fili, who brought back Treeborn Frog. He set a monster and passed to Adam, who passed right back. Fili set a monster and a spell or trap card on his turn, and Adam passed after drawing. Fili passed, Adam summoned Breaker the Magical Warrior, and Fili chained Phoenix Wing Wind Blast to send Fili's face down monster to the top of his deck. Adam brought back Destiny Hero - Disk Commander and Spirit Reaper, but the Reaper was destroyed because of the second Dragon's effect. He drew Cyber Dragon, which was discarded, and D.D. Crow off his Commander. He passed with no further plays.
Fili used his turn to set a monster and pass. Adam drew Mind Crush and hit the Frog with his Commander. Time was called after that, and Adam set a card to his spell or trap zone. He removed the Frog from play, and flipped Mind Crush calling Raiza the Storm Monarch. There was no such card in his hand though, and Adam scooped up his cards.
