Marc Glass has been on a roll lately, making it into the Top 8 and beyond in the last two SJCs he’s entered. Ryan Haviland, on the other hand, has no major accomplishments to speak of, but he is well on his way to a day 2 placement, undefeated halfway through the day. Ryan won the opening roll, and opted to begin the game.
Ryan started us off with a Red Gadget to fetch out Yellow Gadget. He set a spell or trap and passed over to Marc, who activated Reinforcement of the Army to fetch Elemental Hero Stratos, which in turn fetched Destiny Hero — Malicious. Malicious was pitched to Destiny Draw, and another Malicious was summoned by removing the first from play. Glass then activated Monster Gate, tributing his Malicious to summon Jinzo to the field! The third Malicious then hit the field and things were looking really bad for the newcomer, Ryan! Another Monster Gate came down tributing the third Malicious to pull Destiny Hero — Diamond Dude off the top of the deck! Diamond Dude revealed Magical Stone Excavation, and Ryan took a beating, leaving him at 3700 life points after Marc’s first turn! Ryan needed a serious comeback right now, and he started things off with Green Gadget to fetch Red Gadget. He then checked out Glass’ graveyard and saw Snatch Steal among other things waiting in the wings. Ryan set a spell or trap, rammed his Gadget into Diamond Dude, and used Smashing Ground on Jinzo before passing.
Glass had another explosive turn, activating Divine Sword — Phoenix Blade on Stratos before taking his free Excavation for Monster Gate. Monster Gate got him a Destiny Hero — Dasher, and he recovered the Blade once again. Marc then summoned Card Trooper and activated it before attacking into Sakuretsu Armor with Dasher and connecting with Trooper. Ryan simply set a card to each zone, but scooped when Marc revealed Premature Burial to fetch back Jinzo! Marc Glass takes game 1 in just a few explosive turns!
Side decking was as fast and furious as the last game, and once again Ryan opted to begin. He started once again with a Red Gadget fetching Yellow Gadget before setting a spell or trap and passing over to Glass. Diamond Dude came down for Glass, but it missed and was tributed to Monster Gate to bring out Jinzo once again! Jinzo obliterated the Gadget and Ryan was on the defensive! He set a monster and activated Swords of Revealing Light to keep himself alive for a few turns. Marc summoned Card Trooper and burned some cards away before passing. Ryan tributed his set Yellow Gadget for Mobius the Frost Monarch to destroy Marc’s set Threatening Roar, but rather than trading with Jinzo, he attacked Card Trooper! That mistake would cost him the game, as Marc drew and activated Magical Stone Excavation to return Heavy Storm to his hand, discarding Destiny Hero — Dasher and Divine Sword — Phoenix Blade. Heavy Storm blew the game wide open and Marc brought back his Divine Sword before activating Dimension Fusion and dropping Ryan to 1000 life points! Ryan set the rest of his hand to the spell and trap zone next turn, but, after incorrectly calling for Reasoning and allowing Dark Magician of Chaos to hit the field, he scooped the game, unable to mount a defense! Marc Glass and his Diamond Dude Turbo deck burn through Ryan Haviland, 2-0!
