Detroit Shonen Jump TCG Championship Series Tournament
Metagame Staff

It’s over, and we’ve got a new two-time Shonen Jump Champion! Fili Luna’s recent hot streak has finally brought him another Championship title.

Luna had arguably the toughest path through the bracket here today. His first opponent, Jason Lynch, ran Trooper-less Monarch, a favorable matchup for Luna since he was using Crush Card Virus. But from there he had to play against Matt Peddle, a favorite for the win this weekend who came armed with the deck Luna himself ran at SJC Phoenix last week. It was a knock-down, drag-out fight that lasted three duels, but, in the end, Fili triumphed with a massive Chimeratech Overdragon for the win!

From there he took on Andre Borges, the only Perfect Circle Monarch duelist in the Top 16. After defeating Borges, Luna moved on to the finals, where he took on Jonathan Labounty, repeated Top 8’er and star of the new Team YugiohETC. Luna made short work of him, and had the match won 2-0 in a matter of minutes.

Congratulations go out to all the duelists who showed up to compete here in Detroit, but especially to Fili Luna, your new two-time Shonen Jump Champion!

Day 2
While Labounty was armed with the Cyber Phoenix deck Luna had innovated, Luna was running an aggressive deck built around Crush Card Virus that defied categorization.
Relative newcomer Cody Miller, who we featured earlier yesterday, was now facing veteran duelist Jonathan Labounty of Team Rampage (and now, the new team YugiohETC).
Define irony: Fili Luna, playing against Matt Peddle, using Fili Luna’s deck from last weekend. This was going to be interesting.
As the competitors shuffled up, Albarran requested a quick shout-out to his sponsor and Team Kamikaze, while Matt Peddle gave a shout-out to Fili Luna for his deck.
The sun has risen here in Detroit, and the Top 16 are ready to play off!
Day 1
Nine rounds have drawn to a close, and 380 duelists have been pared down to a final sixteen!
Both of these well-renowned duelists had a chance at making Top 16, albeit Hayton’s tiebreakers were far better than Levitin’s.
Lazaro Bellido and Shane Scurry were both right where every duelist loves, and hates, to be: on the bubble.
I decided to profile the weirdest deck that still had a shot at Day 2.
Shawn Kuchta was the last Team Nexus member clinging to his undefeated record here today.
Andrew Hayton was wearing the tightest pants I have ever seen anyone wear, regardless of gender.
Ben Walters was the reason for this feature match; he’s running a successful Gadget build today that packs tricks like Monster Gate, Magical Stone Excavation, and Dark Magician of Chaos.
Neither of these duelists needs an introduction.
"Okay, I’ll tell you I’m playing Crush. Just pleeeease don’t bend my deck!"
Feroze Ramcharan is one of Team Nexus’ celebrated duelists, and is one of the players responsible for the Cyber-Stein invasion last year.
This is it — the last Shonen Jump Championship before the World Championships two weeks from today.
