Emon Ghaneian has won 2 Shonen Jump Championships and is looking for a third, while fellow Overdose member Kris Perovic is in his 4th Day 2 looking for his first win. “Don’t do anything, stupid, alright?” advised Kris as they shuffled up for the match. Kris really wanted this win. He rolled a 6 to Emon’s 9, and Emon opted to go first. They shook hands before the match and exchanged some heartfelt words.
Emon nearly forgot to draw his first card, but he managed to pull through and set a spell or trap before ending. Kris started with Elemental Hero Stratos to fetch Destiny Hero — Diamond Dude. He attacked successfully, and Kris set a spell or trap to finish out the turn. Emon flipped Heavy Storm to destroy Kris’ set Mirror Force and summoned Cyber Dragon! He then set a card to each zone and attacked Stratos.
Kris summoned Exiled Force and equipped it with a Divine Sword — Phoenix Blade before tributing it to destroy Cyber Dragon. The Sword returned to his hand and play passed back to Emon. Emon flipped Call of the Haunted to bring back Cyber Dragon and summoned Snipe Hunter, attacking directly with both. Reinforcement of the Army got Diamond Dude for Kris, and he summoned it, revealing Dimension Fusion right off the bat. Diamond Dude got the Blade and attacked Snipe Hunter. In main phase 2, Monster Gate was activated, tributing Diamond Dude and revealing Destiny Hero — Malicious. Emon had to flip his Magical Merchant, but he only got Skull Lair. It didn’t matter though, as he had Snatch Steal for Malicious in addition to summoning Exiled Force and attacking for exactly enough to win the game. A stunning free Dimension Fusion victory is foiled by Emon Ghaneian who is now just one win away from his third SJC victory.
“Does it constitute lucksacking if I don’t get to play the card?” asked Perovic as the players side decked. Countless message boards would no doubt decide that for themselves later on tonight, but for now it was time for game 2 to begin! Kris finished very quickly, having decided beforehand exactly what he would side in. Emon, on the other hand, seemed to agonize over his choices and took a great deal longer to finish.
Kris started game 2 once again with Stratos fetching Diamond Dude. He then activated Card Destruction, pitching his hand (including Malicious and Snatch Steal) and drawing a new one. Emon’s hand was insane, or at least it was until it hit the graveyard. Future Fusion, Skull Lair, Torrential Tribute, and Return from the Different Dimension were all in there and would have caused Perovic more than a bit of trouble. Perovic brought out the second Malicious and set a spell or trap before ending. Emon summoned Cyber Dragon and attacked Stratos before setting a card to each zone and ending. Kris turned his Malicious to attack position and chanced an attack into Emon’s set monster. It was Gravekeeper’s Spy though, and he took a huge hit. A second Spy was brought to the field and Kris passed over to Emon.
Emon tributed a Spy for Jinzo and did some math to see if he could win right now. Jinzo attacked into Malicious, and Kris ran some numbers of his own. He took the hit from Jinzo and the other monsters and dropped to 1600 life points. Kris was not happy at all with this turn of events, and he activated Magical Stone Excavation pitching Dimension Fusion and Divine Sword — Phoenix Blade to pull back Snatch Steal. He brought back a Phoenix Blade and stole away Jinzo. Lightning Vortex wiped the rest of Emon’s field, and he took some damage for Jinzo. Cyber Dragon came down alongside an Exiled Force and Jinzo was destroyed. Emon had Premature Burial, but Kris activated Threatening Roar before he could get a chance to play it. Kris set a card and ended, but Premature brought Jinzo back next turn to finish the job. Emon Ghaneian defeats teammate Kris Perovic 2-0, in order to secure his third SJC title!
