Reader Challenge Five: The Ojama Delta Hoedown!! Solution
Jason Grabher-Meyer

How many Ojamas does it take for a Hoedown!!? I was aiming for approximately infinite (except, with a definite number), but unfortunately, all the readers who did notice the possibility of a loop in this solution made errors in their execution! The biggest legal hoedown!! was 64 Ojamas large.

That’s right—this challenge did contain an infinite loop. It was a pretty simple one, but not one that any of the other reader challenges had tested for. Still, very few contestants found that solution, and none executed it flawlessly.

The winner, who won without finding the loop, was Wenxuan H., from Lake Mary, Florida. Here’s how Wenxuan threw the Ojama Delta Hoedown!! to end all Ojama Delta Hoedown!!s.

Wow!

I’d intended for this challenge to be easier than some of the recent ones (Canadian, Eh? was just brutal), but this solution really earned Wenxuan his win. Want a hint as to the intended solution? Don’t expect to see Fiber Jar permitted in future challenges.

Next week, I’ll be joined by Julia Hedberg. Julia and I will be writing challenges and sifting through your entries together from now on. The result? Some of the challenges are going to be exceedingly devious, including stuff that blows Challenge Four clean out of the water. But, with two people working on the challenges, we’ll have the opportunity to move to a weekly format! That’s right—instead of two chances per month to win prizes, respect, and certification of your combo-finding lunacy, you’ll now have four! This will allow us to give you guys a bigger, crazier range challenges, as well as a mix of difficulties. Plus, the challenges will all go up on a regular basis, so you’ll know exactly when to set aside your evening to pore over volumes of the newest, the hottest, and the most obscure Yu-Gi-Oh! cards.

For now, Wenxuan H. has won himself the distinction of becoming a Metagame Reader Challenge Champ, as well as half a dozen booster packs. Congratulations to Wenxuan, and thanks to everyone who competed in this past week’s challenge!
