Chaos was out in force at the Shonen Jump Yu-Gi-Oh! TCG Championship Tournament. Chaos on its own; Chaos mixed with Warrior, with Beatdown, with Scientist, with Control—step right up and place your order; it’s a veritable Starbucks of Chaos. Oscar Sanchez had an interesting combination going in his Chaos deck, introducing one of the more desirable cards from Rise of Destiny—The Creator. Accompanied by The Creator Incarnate and Divine Wrath, it’s a noticeable inclusion of newly released cards into an established archetype. This was the first large scale tournament where Rise of Destiny was legal for play, so it’s worth taking a look at decks that included it.
His deck looked like this:
Monsters:
1 Black Luster Soldier – Envoy of the Beginning
2 The Creator
2 Chaos Sorcerer
2 Giant Orc
2 Archfiend Soldier
2 The Creator Incarnate
2 D. D. Warrior Lady
1 Magical Scientist
1 Jinzo
1 Breaker the Magical Warrior
1 Exiled Force
1 Cyber Jar
1 Tribe-Infecting Virus
1 Sinister Serpent
1 Injection Fairy Lily
Spells:
1 Snatch Steal
2 Book of Moon
2 Nobleman of Crossout
1 Reinforcement of the Army
1 Change of Heart
1 Painful Choice
1 Fissure
1 Pot of Greed
1 Premature Burial
1 Heavy Storm
1 Mystical Space Typhoon
Traps:
1 Interdimensional Matter Transporter
1 Sakuretsu Armor
1 Ring of Destruction
1 Divine Wrath
1 Magic Cylinder
1 Torrential Tribute
1 Waboku
1 Call of the Haunted
Now that Chaos Emperor Dragon – Envoy of the End is banned, duelists have resorted to his partner in Chaos, Black Luster Soldier – Envoy of the Beginning. He can’t blow up the world, but he can certainly blow away monsters with either of his effects. Many duelists like to play Chaos variants rather than pure Chaos, and The Creator is a good choice for Chaos. It is a Light type, and it can bring Black Luster Soldier back from the graveyard if was properly special summoned. The Creator Incarnate is also a Light type, and it gets The Creator out on the field without having to tribute a more strategic monster. Giant Orc provides muscle and is a Dark type, necessary for Black Luster Soldier’s summon condition, as are the Archfiend Soldiers. The high ATK, 4 star monsters bring some beatdown flavor to the mix with the help of Injection Fairy Lily. Chaos standards like D. D. Warrior Lady, Breaker the Magical Warrior, and Tribe-Infecting Virus are present, and Oscar also included Chaos Sorcerer, Exiled Force, and Cyber Jar for some extra monster removal.
Spells ran true to Chaos. Oscar put in several game staples, as well as Reinforcements of the Army to fetch out D. D. Warrior Lady and Exiled Force. Snatch Steal, Book of Moon, Fissure and Nobleman of Crossout help clear the field. Painful Choice gets the needed Light and Dark monsters into the graveyard, and play staples like Pot of Greed, Premature Burial, Heavy Storm, and Mystical Space Typhoon round out the spell cards.
Oscar’s deck is light on traps, but the ones he included span the range of utility fairly well. There’s plenty of damage and/or attack prevention with Waboku and International Matter Transporter, monster-removing Sakuretsu Armor, and some damage dealing traps like Ring of Destruction and Magic Cylinder. Call of the Haunted will fetch a monster back, and Torrential Tribute will clear the field. Divine Wrath both negates the activation of an effect monster and destroys the monster, and only for the cost of discarding one card from the hand. Since Chaos decks need to get Light and Dark monsters into the graveyard, it fits in well with the overall synergy of the deck. Oscar has it covered fairly well.
Side Deck:
1 Mobius the Frost Monarch
1 Zaborg the Thunder Monarch
1 Kycoo the Ghost Destroyer
1 Chaos Sorcerer
2 Scapegoat
1 Light of Intervention
1 Skill Drain
1 Creature Swap
1 Offerings to the Doomed
1 The Warrior Returning Alive
2 Dust Tornado
1 Giant Trunade
1 Cliff the Trap Remover
Oscar has put extra spell and trap removal into his side deck, like Mobius the Frost Monarch, Cliff the Trap Remover, Dust Tornado, and Giant Trunade. Kycoo the Ghost Destroyer is good tech against other Chaos decks, and The Warrior Returning Alive will bring Black Luster Soldier back to the hand. Scapegoat is popular in the metagame, Light of Intervention and Skill Drain will protect against flip effects, and one more Chaos Sorcerer is there if it’s needed. Some more monster removal—Zaborg the Thunder Monarch and Offerings to the Doomed—fill out the rest of the side deck.
Fusion Deck:
1 Fiend Skull Dragon
1 Ojama King
1 Thousand-Eyes Restrict
1 Ryu Senshi
1 Dark Balter the Terrible
1 Dark Flame Knight
1 Reaper on the Nightmare
Oscar runs a much smaller Fusion deck than normal, with one copy each of the most commonly utilized Magical Scientist fusions. Hopefully, there’s enough here to get the job done.
Chaos decks were common today, but adding The Creator made this deck list stand out. This tournament was certainly a proving ground for established archetypes, as well as experimental ideas, and as the series continues, we’ll continue to watch what decks develop.
