For almost a year now, Metagame.com has been the top source of coverage of Shonen Jump Championship events, as well as for US Nationals and other high-profile tournaments. However, there were a multitude of other premiere events, like Regionals and international events, which we simply could not cover—until now!
We’re introducing a new feature here at Metagame.com that’s designed to give these events the prominence that they deserve. For some time, Tournament Organizers, judges, and players alike have been asking us how they can get their events featured on the site—and we’ve come up with a way to do it. Since we can’t go to every event, we’re asking you to bring the events to us! We are now accepting tournament reports on Regionals and other premiere events to appear in a biweekly tournament report column right here on Metagame.com.
Our submission requirements are very precise, so please review them carefully before sending in your report. If you’d like to send in a report from your Regional tournament or from another large event, this is what we need from you. Please include the following information in your report:
• Your name and your role at the event (TO, judge, player, and so forth).
• The location, date, and name of the event.
• The format of the event: Advanced, Traditional, Sealed Pack, etc.
• How many players attended the event.
• The Top 8 bracket, including quarterfinals, semifinals, and finals.
• Top 8 decklists.
• Some elements of interest from the event. These could include a brief profile of a local team or a strong individual player, or a highly unusual deck or piece of tech that you noticed. We want to read about something that sets your event apart, so make sure we aren’t disappointed!
• You may submit one picture with your report. Shots of the Top 8, the winner, or another group or some kind of action make for good pictures. A wide shot of the entire event isn’t quite as interesting. Please use a digital camera—most camera phone photos aren’t clear enough. Submit your pictures as .jpg or .gif files.
Your report should be detailed. Please don’t send in just a few jumbled sentences or one-word responses to the above guidelines: the ideal report should be around 300 words. We’re looking for well-written, objective coverage of these events, not just a “my day at Regionals” kind of report. You should talk about the event in general, not about the duels you had or how your deck performed.
Remember, you’re writing for a worldwide audience. Avoid local “in-jokes,” write out full names, and don’t use slang or shorthand. Reports should be written in English. Metagame.com reserves the right to edit reports for style, clarity, and appropriate language.
With that said, we’re looking for reports on all premiere, sanctioned events. This includes Regionals, Sneak Previews, and Nationals. We’re also interested in reports on large-scale events that are outside of North America. Shonen Jump events are covered elsewhere on the site, so please don’t submit any reports on those, and smaller, local-level events aren’t being featured at this time.
Have you got all that? We’re excited about this new feature, and we hope that you are too. It will provide coverage of a wider range of events, while giving more players, teams, and decks the chance to be seen. Readers won’t need to wait for Shonen Jump coverage to see who’s playing the game, what they’re playing, and where they’re playing it—every other week, a fresh report filled with the latest tournament news will be ready to read.
We’re ready for your submissions! If you’ve got an upcoming Regional or other large event, note the submission guidelines and prepare your report. The Yu-Gi-Oh! world is waiting to hear from you.
Send all submissions in .doc format, attached to your email, to MetagameTournaments@gmail.com. In the subject line of the email, list your name and the name and date of the event. We’ll respond to your email if we choose it for inclusion in the column. Please note that we will only include one report per event, so submit your report early!
