Orlando Shonen Jump TCG Championship Series Tournament
Metagame Staff

In a surprise twist, four Chimeratech Overdragon decks made it to Day 2 here at Shonen Jump Championship Orlando. Out of a Top 8 that included Chimeratechs, Gadgets, a Monarch deck, and one Creature Swap deck, Paul Lyn’s Ancient Gear Chimeratech deck (nicknamed “Rusty Bucket of Bolts” by his teammates) has won it all!

Paul Lyn’s first challenge here today was to overcome Team Rampage’s Ivan Flores in a mirror match. While both duelists were running versions of Chimeratech OTK, Lyn’s was developed for stall power and lockdown potential — Flores’ build was optimized for pure speed. After losing out in the first duel, Lyn came back to win two games straight and move on to the semis. There, he had to face the Gadget stylings of John Brewer. Brewer was using an offbeat version of Fifth Gadget that included cards like Banisher of the Radiance and D. D. Designator, but for all his clever tricks he just couldn’t stop Lyn’s Machines.

His last match saw him face off with Mark Vazquez in a Shonen Jump final that pitted two Southern Florida natives against each other. He defeated Vazquez’s Monarch deck in a 2-0 blowout that ended with Chimeratech Overdragon swinging on Mobius and Thestalos for game!

While everyone believed that this weekend would be a big one for Machines, and Gadgets did take third and fourth place, I don’t think anyone saw this coming. Paul Lyn’s victory will certainly give duelists across the globe something to ponder as Shonen Jump Collinsville approaches. For now, congratulations to second and third place winners, Mark Vazquez and Chris Evans, and a special congratulations goes out to Paul Lyn for his innovative strategy and Shonen Jump Championship victory!

Day 2
It all came down to this!
I followed Mark Vazquez into his next match, against Chris Evans. Chris was feeling good, coming off of his previous win.
Both duelists were eager to get to it, as the winner of this match would guarantee themselves a copy of Crush Card Virus!
Both players were very happy to make it to Day 2, and they were ready to fight it out to move ahead.
This match might be a decisive one in deciding the future of the Chimeratech concept.
Well, it was one of the largest ever Scrub Brush Challenges and, while a few players came close now and then, once again we end without a winner.
Day 1
Chris Evans and Nareg Torossian are both veterans of the Shonen Jump Championship circuit, but while Nareg has multiple Top 8s and a title, Evans has always been trapped on the bubble.
Announcement of the new prize card, Crush Card, as well as the news of extra copies has made a lot of players here very happy.
Zach Pelo is from Clearwater, Florida, and at just thirteen years of age his anti-Gadget deck has taken him to a 6-1 finish thus far.
Mark Vazquez, AKA “Waffle,” is a local duelist representing South Florida.
Well, I don’t know if it’s a southern thing, the lack of Cyber-Stein, or just a coincidence, but I had over forty people want to sign up.
Both duelists know each other, and their friendship has led them to stay with one another when attending SJCs in the other’s territory.
One of the decks I was interested in seeing this weekend was Phoenix / Zombies.
Two of the most-recognized duelists here were now facing off.
One-time team members Brian Long and Shane Scurry were pitted against each other, each currently undefeated in the tournament.
After four long months the Shonen Jump Championship circuit is back on the East Coast, and that means we are back in Rampage country!
While Crush Card Virus was revealed as the next Shonen Jump Championship prize months ago, the past few weeks have had some surprises in store.
In my opinion, the dark horse pick for success here this weekend is Dimensional Fissure and Macro Cosmos.
