Reader Challenge #2: Barrel of Monkeys--OF DOOM!
Jason Grabher-Meyer

Welcome to the second Metagame.com Yu-Gi-Oh! Reader Challenge! The volume of responses from last week was overwhelming, and another challenge is certainly in order. The entrant with the highest score submitted by 5 pm (EST) on Friday, August 27 will be the winner. The winner’s solution will be featured on the site, and he or she will receive six packs of Ancient Sanctuary for his or her efforts.

The rules are a bit tighter this week, so make sure you adhere to them. Also, be sure to check the complete rules at the end of this article. Each contestant will be allowed only one submission, and you will not be permitted to make corrections, so make your entry count!

Sounds simple, right? Enter the contest, follow the rules, be the fastest and the best (for this week at least), and claim your victory. Of course, there’s always a catch . . .

PwnzorLeetD00d has not been having a good week. After his humiliating defeat just days ago at the hands of Timmy and his infinite-attack Mokey Mokey, Pwnzor has wandered his town looking for a place where he can still duel with some dignity. Card shops, comic stores, school, and even his own home—everywhere Pwnzor goes, someone laughs at him. In a last-ditch effort, he’s found one place where his embarrassment is not known: the zoo.

Surprisingly, Pwnzor has found some duelists to compete against, and today he’s kept his losing streak alive. Rattled by his loss to Timmy, Pwnzor is playing a Mokey Mokey deck, attempting to recreate Timmy’s success. He can’t help it. Pwnzor’s an imitator, not an innovator. However, his opponent Coco has quite the original dueling style. She loves Cannon Soldier and will only ever deal direct damage to her opponent.

After an afternoon of watching Pwnzor lose and lose to a variety of opponents, Coco takes pity on him. In the final game of the day, she offers Pwnzor a handicap. While she will start with 8,000 life points, she’ll let Pwnzor start with 100,000.

Coco wants to see how much direct damage she can deal to Pwnzor by the end of turn 2. She will never attack, and she will concede if she deals battle damage to Pwnzor. She will go first, and on turn 1 she will summon a Cannon Soldier, but direct damage can come from any source.

Coco is also a monkey. Other than Cannon Soldier, she will never summon any monster card that does not have a monkey somewhere in the illustration.

How much damage can Coco dish out? Might Pwnzor lose to a monkey? How high can the fur fly? Find out in . . .

Reader Challenge Number Two: Barrel of Monkeys—OF DOOM!

*          *            *            *            *

Here are the rules of the challenge.

The objective is to deal as much direct damage as possible by the end of turn 2. The winner is the contestant who submits the highest total of direct damage to Pwnzor’s life points from Coco’s barrage. In the case of a defeat, the first entry with a valid answer resulting in Pwnzor’s humiliating game loss will be declared the winner. If Coco loses, the challenge ends.

Coco will go first and will summon (any type of summon) a Cannon Soldier on turn 1. She will make any other legal plays you wish.

Pwnzor will spend his first turn drawing his one card, normal summoning Mokey Mokey, and glaring angrily at the field. He will then pass. You cannot rely on Pwnzor to make decisions in your favor. For instance, you cannot play Painful Choice and then state “Pwnzor gives Coco [a specific card],” though playing Painful Choice or similar cards is legal. Pwnzor still wants to win the game, after all.

Coco may attack, but her attack must never result in battle damage being dealt to Pwnzor.

Coco can do anything legal on either of her turns, provided she never summons a monster to the field without a monkey, ape, gorilla, chimpanzee, or an entity maintaining the appearance of any of the aforementioned creatures somewhere in its illustration. A single copy of Cannon Soldier is the one exception. The monster doesn’t have to actually be a monkey; looking like a monkey is good enough. For instance, Acrobat Monkey is fine, despite its being a robot. Once the end phase of turn 2 has concluded, the challenge is over.

Coco’s initial draw, and any draws after it, may consist of any cards legal for play.

Coco’s deck must adhere to the Limited list. It is exactly 40 cards. Limiter Removal is banned from this challenge, and Coco’s deck cannot include it.

You have two turns to deal as much direct damage as possible, using whatever four cards you want in your opening draw, plus Cannon Soldier. Your draws on turn 1 and turn 2 for your draw phases may be any cards you wish, as well as any cards drawn from effects such as Pot of Greed or Graceful Charity.

Will Coco give Pwnzor the thrashing of his life? Good luck finding out!
