When April 1 rolls around, Magical Scientist enters the ranks of the forbidden. Some duelists are happy about this, and others will miss the little bald freak, but whichever side you’re taking, it’s impossible to deny the impact this card has made on the game. We might as well salute the Scientist by giving it its own contest to honor the impact that it has made on the game. Interested? If you can get it working for you, an entire booster box will be your reward!
The goal of this week’s challenge is to special summon as many unique monsters as possible from your Fusion deck with Magical Scientist’s effect—in ONE turn. You will go first, but you may not attack. Your opponent will do nothing in response to any of your actions. This challenge will end with the end phase of your first turn, or when either you or your opponent runs out of life points . . . so don’t kill off your opponent, and don’t run out of life points! Both players will begin with the standard 8000 life points.
You will begin your turn with six cards, draw, then set up your field and start special summoning Fusion monsters. You’ll earn one point for each unique Fusion monster that you summon with Scientist’s effect. If you summon every available level 6 Fusion monster in the game that can be summoned with the Scientist, then you can earn extra points by summoning them again, from the Fusion deck, with the Scientist’s effect. How do you get them back into the Fusion deck? Well, that’s up to you! Remember, a unique Fusion monster (multiple cards of the same monster count as unique), summoned from the Fusion deck with the Scientist’s effect is the only way to earn a point.
Since this one is tough, we’ll give you an extra card in your opening hand—you’ll have a total of six cards instead of the usual five.
The first valid entry we receive that scores 70 points, or the closest to it, will be declared the winner and claim the booster box! Let’s see what you can do.
Please include a full list of the contents of your Fusion deck. Also, you may decide the order of cards in your deck so long as that order stays random. For instance, you can decide what you draw for each of your draw phases, but you could not use a card that specifically states “place x on the bottom of your deck,” and then claim that you’d draw it off the top. Any time your opponent makes a choice, like giving you cards from an effect, you may make that decision for him or her. However, you don’t know what your opponent has in his or her deck, so you can’t rely on specific cards.
Use the new Advanced format, which will be legal beginning April 1, with the exception of Magical Scientist. It gets one last hurrah.
The following cards are forbidden:
Card of Safe Return
Black Luster Soldier – Envoy of the Beginning
Primal Seed
Heart of the Underdog
Dark Magician of Chaos
We’re interested to see what you come up with. In case you haven’t memorized the submission rules, here they are again. Make sure you follow them carefully—it feels pretty bad to lose over a technicality. However, we get a massive amount of entries, so make sure your entry makes it through the first round of screenings by adhering to the rules.
Please put “Ultimate Duelist Challenge #2: xx” in the subject line of your email, where the x’s are the total points you have earned. Be sure to pay attention when you’re scoring so that you count correctly.
Begin by stating your opening hand, and then give a step-by-step breakdown of what hits the field and when. Be precise and clear. If we can’t understand your sequence, you’re probably not going to win the challenge.
Don’t forget to include your full name and mailing information. We can’t send you your prize without it, and with a booster box on the line, we’re pretty sure you are going to want us to send it.
Please only enter once. Additional entries will void all entries you submit.
Entries should be submitted to contest@metagame.com and must be received by Monday, March 22nd at 5 pm EST. Good luck!
All contest submissions become property of Metagame.com and will be edited for clarity if published.
