If there’s one monster theme that many people have recently become familiar with, it’s the Elemental Heroes. Many duelists took a look at these new fusion monsters a few months ago during The Lost Millennium Sneak Previews and wondered where they came from. After all, The Lost Millennium is a set about ancient monsters and rock monsters! How do people dressed up in costumes relate to rocks?
Many people got their answer soon after Yu-Gi-Oh! GX was announced. The preview trailer featured these new Elemental Hero monsters, along with a brand-spanking new character in the series. Oh, and there was a distinct lack of Yugi in the previews. Instead, there were a lot of close-ups of this new guy named Jaden. The advancement towards a new and unknown future began. Elemental Heroes are now available for play in the real trading card game.
Unfortunately, there’s almost no support for them right now.
Many duelists have asked, “Are there going to be more Elemental Heroes in the future?” These duelists received their answer when they clicked on the link leading to the article you are now reading. Today’s new Elemental Hero isn’t the only support card for Jaden's team of justice. You’ll see a lot more support in the future, but what that support is and when it will be released cannot be said at this time. However, you’ll be able to see a nice little batch of new cards that help these fusion fighters if you attend the Cybernetic Revolution Sneak Preview event near you!
Today’s card is Elemental Hero Bubbleman, a rare hero monster that debuts shortly into the new series coming this fall.
For those of you interested in finding out when Elemental Hero Bubbleman will be introduced into Yu-Gi-Oh! GX, you can look for its first appearance in episode 6, when Jaden is in desperate need of some options. It certainly won’t be the last time you’ll see Elemental Hero Bubbleman, as it will make numerous appearances throughout the series.
In the current Advanced format environment, you’ll notice that Delinquent Duo, Pot of Greed, and Graceful Charity run rampant as the deadliest cards in the format. Many duelists will give up on a game if their opponent plays all three of these cards on turn one. Some duelists have even nicknamed these cards the “Unholy Trinity.” However, the primary focus today is on Delinquent Duo, a card that was formerly forbidden from Advanced tournament play. This card, when combined with Magician of Faith or Serial Spell, can instantly destroy an opponent’s options if it’s played early in the game. The ability to reduce your opponent’s hand from five to zero within two turns is insanely powerful, and because of this, it’s safe to say that topdecking is something that duelists expect to have to do occasionally when playing in a tournament.
Elemental Hero Bubbleman was designed for those instances where you’re left in the aftermath of the unholy trinity. If you are stuck topdecking with no cards on the field, then Elemental Hero Bubbleman can be your best friend. As a hero that obviously stores its weaponry and bubble-mix within Pot of Greed, Bubbleman can be special summoned and will allow you to draw two cards if you don’t have any cards in hand or on the field when you summon it. However, unlike Pot of Greed, Elemental Hero Bubbleman provides you with a +2 card advantage, as you’re losing nothing through its effect, whereas Pot of Greed will still go to the graveyard.
The advantage to Elemental Hero Bubbleman is that it won’t take up any serious deck space, either. One copy is all that’s necessary for an Elemental Hero deck at the moment, since there are no fusion monsters in the game that allow you to fuse Bubbleman with any other monsters. However, one copy is all you’ll need, as any deck that runs a decent amount of Warriors should be running two copies of Reinforcements of the Army. This allows you to draw Reinforcements of the Army if you’re topdecking, and can fetch Elemental Hero Bubbleman for you if you’ve been forced into a terrible situation against your opponent. This will effectively give you four different versions of Pot of Greed in your deck when you’re forced into a complete topdecking situation. Now you’ll have favorable odds to recover from a couple of Delinquent Duos.
You can expect to see more Elemental Hero support in the future, and you’ll see some of it at the Cybernetic Revolution Sneak Preview Weekend! Be sure to get to the location that’s holding a Sneak Preview event early if you’re living in the Southern California area, as these events are packed each time! Remember that each duelist will receive a free copy of Embodiment of Apophis for entering an event during the weekend. For more information on Embodiment of Apophis, check back here at Metagame.com later in the coming weeks!
