Deck Profiles: Max Suffridge and Vincent Tundo |

I mentioned at the start of the day that Vincent Tundo had an excellent build of the Demise deck. If you take a look at the feature matches from rounds 2 and 3, you’ll begin to see some of the problems that the standard Doom Dozer decks have been facing today. Pat Smith was entirely unable to put up any sort of offense (or defense) other than a Neo Bug with a Megamorph. Not very impressive if you ask me. Vincent Tundo on the other hand can pump out the aggression with lots of smaller special summons rather than the huge special summon of Doom Dozer. You can’t see the decklist yet if you’re reading this live, but Tundo is running three copies each of Gigantes and The Rock Spirit. Why? First off, both of those monsters only require one removal from the graveyard to be summoned. That gives him a lot of extra resilience against decks that pack Dimensional Fissure (in fact, he beat one earlier today) in addition to allowing him to summon more than one monster if he has it, allowing him to generate a higher total ATK on field than with a Demise and a Dozer. The second reason that he’d run the Earth attribute special summon monsters over Doom Dozer is that it allows him to use more powerful normal monsters instead of cards like Neo Bug and Metal Armored Bug. Tundo has Gemini Elf, Insect Knight, and the new Gene-Warped Warwolf at his disposal to help win games even when things aren’t going too well. Check out his full build:

Tundo is also running an extra equip by the name of United We Stand to take advantage of his extra monster summoning capabilities. Also of note is that Tundo is running defensive burn traps, specifically Dimension Wall and Magic Cylinder, to make people think twice before rushing in to deal as much damage as possible. In fact, the only thing he does that I don’t like is skimp out on the search cards. Max Suffridge is doing no such thing. While he is running Neo Bug and Metal Armored Bug along with Doom Dozer, Suffridge has also maxed out on Manju of the Ten Thousand Hands, Senju of the Thousand Hands, and Sonic Bird. He’s taking no chances that he won’t draw the pieces of his combo, though in the process he also increases his vulnerability to cards like Banisher of the Radiance and Dimensional Fissure by only running 5 normal monsters, one of which is level 8. Doom Dozer still needs two monsters to be removed to summon it, but Max has a bit of a backup plan in that respect. It involves still having normal monsters in his deck after summoning Demise, but if he does he can also summon Shinato, King of a Higher Plane. With 3300 ATK, slapping a Megamorph down on Shinato will increase that number to 6600 ATK. From there, all you need is the attack of Demise or a random Ritual spell searcher to win the game. You can check his full list below:
Both players are 4-0 right now and show no signs of stopping until they’ve firmly locked down their spots in the Top 16 playoff tomorrow. While the Demise deck is nowhere near unstoppable, it’s still an excellent deck that a lot of players who are less involved in the online communities weren’t expecting. Keep an eye out for it in your upcoming regional and local events! |
