Both competitors were playing Chaos Beatdown/Control hybrids. Friso’s deck departed from the normal build by running White Magical Hats and Masked Sorcerer, but other than that both decks were pretty typical.
Game 1
Friso began by playing Painful Choice for Sinister Serpent. He used Monster Reborn to bring back his Sangan, summoned Chaos Emperor Dragon, and used its effect to reduce the game to topdecking in his favor due to his Sangan pull. It backfired a bit when Thom topdecked a Thunder Nyan Nyan and attacked, but Friso took control of Nyan Nyan with Snatch Steal and then attacked for game two turns later.
Thom spent some time side decking at this point, but Friso did not.
Game 2
Thom began with a conservative opening that was almost ruined by Friso’s early press with Magical Scientist. But, when Friso went to summon with Magical Scientist, Thom used Torrential Tribute to clear Friso’s field and blow away his own Sangan in the process. He then played Harpie’s Feather Duster and used a Mystical Space Typhoon to power through Friso’s response of an Imperial Order.
Both players then took turns attacking each other with hand control monsters: Thom first, with a Spirit Reaper, and then Friso with a White Magical Hat. Thom continued the pressure, attacking with a D.D. Warrior Lady and then Spirit Reaper again, which left Friso without any cards in hand.
From that point on, Thom controlled the board, and with a Call of the Haunted and a Premature Burial, he took game 2.
Game 3
Friso opened game 3 in an exceedingly strong fashion, playing Pot of Greed and then hitting Thom for two cards with Delinquent Duo. He didn’t have any monsters though, and set three spells ortraps instead. Thom looked to attack with a Breaker the Magical Warrior, but was stopped by Scapegoats. Friso then went on the offensive, gaining some monster advantage but failing to protect it against an Exiled Forces from Thom.
Friso continued pressing the offensive with a single Tribe-Infecting Virus, summoning it with Premature Burial. A turn later it was tributed for Jinzo, and Friso took the game against the monster-deprived Thom.
Match Win: Friso de Boer
