Mike laughs maniacally.
All right, so maybe we don’t actually control you, and you might check in just once a day. Whether you’re a casual duelist or a Yu-Gi-Oh! maniac, you’re here for the sole purpose of seeing what card will be spoiled today. With a name like Cybernetic Revolution, you can safely assume that some mechanical terrors will be unleashed in this set. Today features the first of many different Machine-type monsters that you’ll see in this set. This card is bound to make both competitive and casual duelists everywhere jump for joy.
Cyber Dragon is a Machine-type monster with the Light attribute. Its 2100 ATK and 1600 DEF are pretty good for a level 5 monster that doesn’t require a tribute. That’s right—when you have no monsters on your side of the field and your opponent has at least one monster on his or her side of the field, you can special summon Cyber Dragon without tributing a monster.
Some of you who have checked out the official Yu-Gi-Oh! website may recognize a monster like this in the Yu-Gi-Oh! GX video footage. This is one of Zane Truesdale's primary monsters in the TV series. Zane Truesdale is one of the most powerful duelists at Duel Academia. Zane is one of the highest-ranking members of the Obelisk Blue dorm, and he’s commonly referred to as the Kaiser of Duel Academia. He is the undefeatable duelist of the school, and his deck happens to focus on Cyber Dragon. But how does Zane use his Cyber Dragon in the TV show? Well, maybe you’ll get an answer to that question later this week.
Cyber Dragon is a super rare card from Cybernetic Revolution, and its ability is fairly easy to understand. This effect is quite similar to that of The Fiend Megacyber from the age-old Pharaoh’s Servant booster set. One of the advantages that Cyber Dragon has over The Fiend Megacyber is that it can be special summoned if your opponent only has one monster on the field. It’s also a Light monster. Duelists are always looking for Light monsters that aren’t named Magician of Faith or D. D. Warrior Lady to add to a deck that contains the infamously deadly Black Luster Soldier – Envoy of the Beginning. However, unlike The Fiend Megacyber, you cannot special summon this card if you have even so much as a Sheep token on your side of the field. But this is hardly a drawback—instead, it makes Cyber Dragon one of the best opening plays in a game and a great addition to many decks.
What makes Cyber Dragon so deadly in the Advanced format is that it’s a level 5 monster that is easy to summon. This makes Zane's mechanical terror a great choice for Metamorphosis, as Cyber Dragon can easily become Dark Balter the Terrible within seconds. This will probably be Cyber Dragon’s most popular use, and it may ultimately cause Airknight Parshath to see less play in a few months. Having the ability to summon an early-game Dark Balter the Terrible can be cruel and unusual punishment—just watch out for Tsukuyomi! Of course, if you expect that your opponent has the greatest Spirit monster ever printed in his or her hand, then you can simply keep Cyber Dragon around. Its stats are strong enough to survive most attacks when it’s in both attack and defense position!
This card may not be seen very often in the Sealed Pack events that will take place during the Cybernetic Revolution Sneak Preview Weekend. However, you can expect the duelist who gets this card to have a distinct advantage over other duelists. Cyber Dragon is an early game powerhouse if it’s played correctly. It’s not nearly as spectacular as it can be in a Constructed tournament, but Cyber Dragon certainly isn’t a bad option to include in your deck during the upcoming Sneak Preview tournaments. It possesses relatively impressive statistics, so you’re bound to gain some sort of advantage from using this cybernetic terror.
If you’d like to get your hands on your own Cyber Dragon before most people have a chance to do so, be sure to attend a Cybernetic Revolution Sneak Preview event near you! Not only do they hand out loads of cool stuff at each of these events (including the new promo card, Embodiment of Apophis), but you can also be one of the first to test out the new cards before anyone else. These events are sure to be a lot of fun for everyone!
