Flaming Eternity Preview: Behemoth the King of All Animals
Mike Rosenberg

Welcome, ladies and gentlemen, boys and girls, duelists and collectors, to another Flaming Eternity Sneak Peek! The Yu-Gi-Oh! Sneak Preview events are happening this weekend, so be sure to go to an event near you. Sneak Previews are always a blast, and you’ll get a free Cyber Harpie Lady promo card just for signing up for the larger event!

We’re kicking off this week with support for one of the most underrated monster types in the Yu-Gi-Oh! TCG. This monster type has been shafted time and time again—it never gets any support. “Second-rate” cards like
Berserk Gorilla, Enraged Battle Ox, and King Tiger Wanghu are all this type of monster. All right, so today’s card supports Beasts, and Beasts certainly aren’t underrated. In fact, Beasts are quite good. However, most decks don’t run any high-level Beasts. Today’s card, though, may inspire players to use more animals in their Beast decks. There’s nothing better than a tribute monster that triggers a great effect when you tribute summon it, and it’s even better when your level 7 Beast can be summoned with only one tribute. Today’s sneak peek is Behemoth the King of All Animals.

Behemoth the King of All Animals
Attribute: Earth
Type: Beast/Effect
Level: 7
ATK: 2700
DEF: 1500
This monster can be normal summoned or set by tributing one monster. If you do this, its original ATK becomes 2000. When this monster is tribute summoned, you can return a number of Beast-Type monsters from your graveyard to your hand equal to the number of monsters tributed to summon this card.

Ordinarily, when you tribute summon a level 5 or 6 monster, you lose one card from the combined number of cards on your side of the field and in your hand. In terms of card advantage, this isn’t too bad if your tribute monster can destroy one card on your opponent’s side of the field. This balances out the exchange of one card of yours for one card of your opponent’s (a one–for-one deal), and you would have a slightly more powerful monster on your side of the field. When you tribute summon a monster that’s level 7 or higher, you lose two total cards. Even with
Change of Heart or Snatch Steal, you’d still lose two cards, though at least your opponent would lose more cards, too.

Some recently released tribute monsters lighten the burden of taking the time to tribute summon them by either adding more cards to your hand or field or destroying cards on your opponent’s field. The monarchs, such as
Zaborg the Thunder Monarch and Mobius the Frost Monarch, are examples of monsters that give you relatively fair trade-offs when they’re tribute summoned. A monster like Dark Magician of Chaos gives you card advantage and removes monsters it destroys in battle from play.

Behemoth the King of All Animals allows you an even advantage when you tribute summon it. If you were to tribute two monsters to summon Behemoth, you would be able to return two Beasts from your graveyard to your hand as a bonus for the trouble you had when you tribute summoned this gargantuan Beast. The fact that you can tribute summon Behemoth with just one monster makes it even more useful. The Beast won’t be dead weight in your hand when you’re short on monsters. The fact that you don’t lose card advantage for tribute summoning the monster, and the fact that this monster can be tribute summoned with either one or two tributes, easily makes Behemoth the King of All Animals into a versatile goliath in Constructed play.

In Sealed Pack formats, Behemoth is a must-play card, not only because it has massive stats, but also because it can be tribute summoned with ease. Behemoth is one of the few monsters in Sealed Pack that can provide card advantage, and that’s another serious plus. There’s also bound to be more Beast support in Flaming Eternity to make Behemoth even better.

What kind of Beast support can you expect? I guess you’ll have to attend a Sneak Preview event this weekend to find out! These events are lots of fun, and you’ll get to meet duelists who could end up becoming good friends. Plus, you’ll get to enjoy a casual yet organized Sealed Pack event, many side events will be going on throughout the day, and you can get free stuff like the new Cyber Harpie Lady promo card just for entering the main event. The Sneak Previews are certainly worth checking out!

Good luck to everyone at the
Sneak Preview events. I hope you find themed monsters and removal in your packs! If you have any great stories about a Sneak Preview event that you want to share, send them to me at Mrosenberg@metagame.com.
