“These events are a lot of fun, and I like cheering my friends on.”
David Simon, also known as F00b, may not have been mentioned much on various websites, but he’s an old veteran to the Yu-Gi-Oh! TCG. He’s been involved in the competitive environment of Yu-Gi-Oh! for some time now, but David has also been involved with the increasingly large online community supporting everyone’s favorite card game based off the spiked hair kid. While F00b would have loved to join the Las Vegas Shonen Jump TCG Championship, college activities kept him from doing so. David was dedicated to rehearsing with a band at Arizona State University. This is a very smart move, since his practice for his music performance major should always be put ahead of a card game, even if it’s a fun card game.
“If I had entered, I’d be running a huge tribute monster deck. Monster Gate and Reasoning.” His strategy in playing the deck is to run one or two tribute monsters of every level up to eight, making Reasoning a highly consistent deck thinner and special summoning utility. This would have been really interesting to see, but it seems as though we’ll all have to wait until the next big TCG Championship before this deck makes its big appearance at a large tournament.
I asked David, without a bias, if he thought some of his friends, such as Metagame’s Evan Vargas or Pojo’s Jae Kim, would do well today. His response was expected and honest. “They’ve got creative decks and know this game inside out. I expect them to make the Top 8!”
I ended up playing against David’s big beater deck with one of my latest concoctions inspired from one my older articles—a Second Coin Toss deck. While the deck can completely devastate a player with a little luck, the deck can miss horribly if I can’t draw that Second Coin Toss or I have no luck that day. Even with a little luck, David easily smacked me around in only a few duels. Beware when you’re playing against David Simon at a TCG Championship, as he won’t always be on the sidelines cheering for his friends.
