Day 1 Wrap-Up
Jason Grabher-Meyer

It’s over! Nine rounds have narrowed a field of hundreds of duelists down to just a final sixteen, and there are some surprising decks that have made it to Day 2.

Nick Synodis has made it all the way to the Top 16, with his unique Machine beatdown burn deck. Packing three Des Koala, several burn traps, and a single copy of Mataza the Zapper, it’s one of the most aggressive decks here this weekend. Unpredictable, explosive, and difficult to approach, it’s a great bet for a high finish tomorrow.

Richard Ruiz is playing Gellenduo burn, another highly original strategy making its first Day 2 appearance this weekend. Ruiz’s build is an updated version of the classic lockdown burn, and fans of Gellenduo will be happy to see the much-vaunted monster finally making the playoff rounds.

The rest of the field consists of T-Hero, Card Trooper Monarchs, Machine beatdown, Gadgets, and even an Earth beatdown! Tomorrow we’ll see duelists like American Champion Adam Corn, Fili Luna, Nationals Runner-Up Bryan Rockenbach, Theerasak Poonsombat, and Hugo Adame go head-to-head with a field of gifted newcomers, and the results are sure to be epic. The number one feature match we’re all waiting for tomorrow? Bryan Rockenbach versus Adam Corn, in a re-match from the US National Championship finals!

Get ready: Day 2 of Shonen Jump Championship Phoenix is just twelve hours away!
