It’s over, and Jonathan Labounty is your newest Shonen Jump Champion! Despite a whopping five Zombie decks in the Top 8, two of which made it to the Top 4, a new breed of Perfect Circle Monarch reigns supreme.

Day 2 featured ten different deck strategies, but in the end it came down to Hugo Adame playing a vicious burn variant against Labounty’s redux of Perfect Circle Monarchs. Phoenix Wing Wind Blast and The Transmigration Prophecy made for the most sophisticated build of Perfect Circle we’ve ever seen, and it carried Labounty through an awe-inspiring gauntlet of competitors.

First, Labounty won out of a horrible situation playing Fili Luna in the Top 16. Faced with a time situation in game 3, Labounty managed the win despite a deficit of practically dozens of cards. He went on to defeat Kris Perovic with Diamond Dude Turbo, Paul Levitin with Zombies, and finally faced Hugo in a three-duel showdown that ended in a spectacular finish. A brilliant standby phase Mystical Space Typhoon led to a flurry of plays that finished the tournament and crowned Jonathan Labounty the victor.

So where do we go from here? Labounty’s Perfect Circle will certainly be emulated. Zombies are going to be huge, and Kris Perovic’s new Diamond Dude Turbo build may also see some imitation. Eric Wu and Hugo Adame’s burn deck is remarkable, and certainly deserves a long lifespan over the next few months. With ten different decks in Day 2 though, there’s going to be a lot of debate emerging over the next few days.
