Washington DC Shonen Jump TCG Championship Series Tournament
Metagame Staff

It’s over, and Jonathan Labounty is your newest Shonen Jump Champion! Despite a whopping five Zombie decks in the Top 8, two of which made it to the Top 4, a new breed of Perfect Circle Monarch reigns supreme.

Day 2 featured ten different deck strategies, but in the end it came down to Hugo Adame playing a vicious burn variant against Labounty’s redux of Perfect Circle Monarchs. Phoenix Wing Wind Blast and The Transmigration Prophecy made for the most sophisticated build of Perfect Circle we’ve ever seen, and it carried Labounty through an awe-inspiring gauntlet of competitors.

First, Labounty won out of a horrible situation playing Fili Luna in the Top 16. Faced with a time situation in game 3, Labounty managed the win despite a deficit of practically dozens of cards. He went on to defeat Kris Perovic with Diamond Dude Turbo, Paul Levitin with Zombies, and finally faced Hugo in a three-duel showdown that ended in a spectacular finish. A brilliant standby phase Mystical Space Typhoon led to a flurry of plays that finished the tournament and crowned Jonathan Labounty the victor.

So where do we go from here? Labounty’s Perfect Circle will certainly be emulated. Zombies are going to be huge, and Kris Perovic’s new Diamond Dude Turbo build may also see some imitation. Eric Wu and Hugo Adame’s burn deck is remarkable, and certainly deserves a long lifespan over the next few months. With ten different decks in Day 2 though, there’s going to be a lot of debate emerging over the next few days.

For now, congratulations go out to the competitors here today, especially Shonen Jump Champion Jonathan Labounty!

Day 2
With Zombies now knocked out of the tournament and Paul Levitin playing Dale Bellido for third place, Hugo Adame and Jon Labounty were now pitting burn against Perfect Circle.
Levitin was two matches away from his second Shonen Jump title, but Labounty’s Monarchs and heavy disruption were going to prove challenging.
The last time these two played was Shonen Jump Championship Boston almost exactly one year ago.
Both duelists are playing Zombie builds inspired by Lazaro Bellido, and the differences between the decks are minute, but important.
The Time 2 Duel Tour Comes to Shonen Jump Washington!
Ten unique strategies have made the cut, including two Gadget decks, two burn decks, and an unbelievable five Zombie builds.
Day 1
Day 1 of Shonen Jump Washington is over, and some important verdicts are in.
Glass had just come from beating a Zombie deck last round, in which his heavily-teched side deck destroyed his opponent.
We are one round away from the completion of Swiss competition, and it seems like a good time to look at some of the defining cards that have affected multiple archetypes here today.
Jon Labounty and Anthony Alvarado have a storied history, dating back to the old rivalry between Team Overdose and the now-defunct Team Rampage.
14 year-old Kadeem Smith is one of the youngest undefeated players here today, and the young Brooklyn duelist has been shredding opposition with one of the few Demise decks in this tournament.
Dale Bellido was now taking Zombies against Ryan Hayakawa, who was packing a burn deck highly reminiscent of the one which took his teammate Kenny So to victory at Shonen Jump Indy.
With so many duelists taking inspiration from Lazaro Bellido’s performance in Toronto last weekend, it’s no surprise that his closest teammates are all running the latest version of his deck.
Augustin Herrera and Matt Peddle are both veterans of the Shonen Jump circuit, but neither has ever managed to take home title gold.
Theeresak Poonsombat has done it again.
Together, these two men invented everything we know about competitive Destiny Heroes.
Lazaro Bellido’s inspired a ton of competitors like Matt Peddle and Paul Levitin to take up the Zombie cause here today.
After weeks of waiting it’s finally here: the first Shonen Jump Championship of the new format!
