There is no doubt in my mind that Jeff Jones is the living embodiment of virtual controversy. He’s also a rather accomplished duelist, a trait he shares with his opponent, Matt Peddle. Jones is playing an Advanced Ritual Art deck, while Matt is playing something that he dubs “One of Everything.”
Jeff won the roll and started out with a Sonic Bird for Advanced Ritual Art. Matt summoned Card Trooper and put Pot of Avarice, Mystical Space Typhoon, and Treeborn Frog into his graveyard from his deck before swinging on the Sonic Bird. He had no backfield however, and when Jeff revealed his hand consisting of every card he needed to win, Peddle scooped things up. Jeff Jones takes game 1 in less than a minute!
Matt was very keen to not have a repeat of game 1, and he took his side decking very seriously while Jeff commented on his desire to have an exact repeat of game 1. Matt started things off with a set to each zone, while Jones summoned Sonic Bird once again to fetch Advanced Ritual Art. He attacked into a set Don Zaloog, however, and was forced to discard Manju of the Ten Thousand Hands. Peddle then smashed him with Mind Crush revealing that Jones essentially had game next turn while forcing him to discard the Ritual Art. Jeff threw down Swords of Revealing Light, and passed to Matt who set a card to each zone before passing. Insect Knight came down for Jones who used it to attack Don Zaloog while Sonic Bird crashed into Peddle’s set Card Trooper. Jeff passed without any further plays and Peddle set a card to each zone and ended his turn. Insect Knight attacked again next turn, but this time Mirror Force blew Jones’ monsters away.
Unable to attack, Peddle set two more spells or traps making Jeff’s life a lot harder than he’d have liked it to be. Jeff set a spell or trap and passed to Peddle who activated Reinforcement of the Army to fetch Don Zaloog. If Jeff had Decree set this would be a stellar move, but it was Mirror Force and Don Zaloog bit the dust. Jeff summoned Manju of the Ten Thousand Hands and activated the effect, but Pulling the Rug shut the searcher down! Jeff set a spell or trap, but was forced to pass his turn once again. Matt flipped D.D. Warrior Lady and attacked while Jeff simply passed. Card Trooper came down for Peddle, and, after sending three cards to the graveyard, Peddle brought Jeff down to 1500 life points! Jeff flipped Decree in the end phase, but Matt chained to the Decree with Ring of Destruction to end the game! Pulling the Rug wins yet another game in a feature match, pushing the match to game 3!
It was Jeff’s turn to start, and the players wished each other luck before drawing their cards. Jeff started out just like he did in the first two games, with Sonic Bird fetching Advanced Ritual Art. He then set a spell or trap and passed over to Peddle who summoned Cyber Dragon and Spirit Reaper. Cyber Dragon hit Sonic Bird and Reaper swung directly. Matt really needed to drop that Ritual Art, but he missed and hit Contract with the Abyss instead! It didn’t matter though, as the Reaper hit was followed up by Confiscation discarding the Art and D.D. Designator removing Doom Dozer from play and leaving Jeff with a Neo Bug and a Metal Armored Bug! The Neo Bug exacted a small amount of revenge on Spirit Reaper next turn, but that attack was all Jeff could muster. Matt activated Reinforcement of the Army to fetch Don Zaloog, looking to drop the rest of Jeff’s cards. The Dragon attacked the Bug, and the rest of monsters hit directly, costing Jeff his Metal Armored Bug and Demise, King of Armageddon. Jeff had one last draw to somehow get Demise to the field before he got too low on life, but the Neo Bug he picked up wasn’t going to do it. The Bug beat down Don Zaloog, but the hits kept coming from Peddle’s side of the field. Jeff’s next draw was Manju of the Ten Thousand Hands and he summoned it, refusing to activate its effect to deny Peddle the pleasure of using Pulling the Rug. At this point, Matt wrote “Royal Decree” on a little piece of paper and placed it on Jeff’s set card before summoning Banisher of the Radiance and continuing the smashing. At the end of Matt’s turn, Jeff finally flipped the Decree. He summoned Doom Dozer and passed, but when Matt revealed an Enemy Controller, Jones offered the handshake! Matt Peddle defeats Jeff Jones and his deadly Demise deck, 2-1!
