Seven Days—September 23
Jason Grabher-Meyer

It’s Tuesday, September 23, 2008, and as the final days tick down to Shonen Jump Championship Tulsa, three new tins are hitting stores today. Good news if you need Goyo Guardians!

Exclusive Tins at Toys ‘R’ Us, Wal-Mart, and Target Today
While Stardust Dragon and Red Dragon Archfiend Collector’s Tins are selling out in many areas, and duelists await the Turbo Warrior and Black Rose Dragon Collector’s Tins coming out soon, three more tins have flown under the radar. You’ll find them at Toys ‘R’ Us, Wal-Mart, and Target, but there’s a catch: each store carries only one of the three varieties hence the name "Exclusive Tins."

While the Montage Dragon Exclusive Tin was released early at some Wal-Mart locations, the other two should start appearing in stores today. The Nitro Warrior Exclusive Tin will be sold at Target locations, and the Goyo Guardian Exclusive Tin will only be available at Toys ‘R’ Us. Cheap Goyo Guardians for all!

Each Exclusive Tin comes with a Secret Rare version of its variant card, a Token Pack (look for one Token that wasn’t in the Stardust and Red Dragon Collector Tins), and five boosters: two Light of Destruction, two The Duelist Genesis, and one pack of Phantom Darkness.

Champion Pack Game Seven Arriving at Local Tournaments
Also debuting this week is the latest booster set in the Champion Pack series. This one’s a pretty exciting set, with Super Rare reprints of Legendary Jujitsu Master, Lonefire Blossom, Threatening Roar, and Gladiator Beast Bestiari. It’s also got a pretty good Ultra Rare: Voltic Kong.

Voltic Kong
Beast / Effect
Light / Level 4
1800 ATK / 1000 DEF
When this card inflicts battle damage to your opponent, send 1 card from the top of your opponent's deck to the graveyard for each face-up Light monster you control.

Notable non-foil cards include Elemental Hero Ocean, Spell Striker, Instant Fusion, and Fusilier Dragon, the Dual-Mode Beast. All in all it’s a great set, especially considering you get it for free just by playing in local tournaments! Shonen Jump Championship Tulsa
It’s been several weeks since Gladiator Beasts and Teleport Dark Armed Dragon clashed in the battle of Baltimore, and this weekend the next chapter unfolds! For the first time ever, Shonen Jump action travels to Tulsa, Oklahoma.

To say that the stellar performances from Jeff Walker, Paul Levitin, Dale Bellido, Adam Corn, and others at Shonen Jump Championship Baltimore were inspiring would be an understatement; this format exploded from the get-go, and every Regional Qualifier since has felt the impact. Duelists all across the world have come to see Teleport Dark Armed as either a top contender or simply the best deck in the format, and with Baltimore being the strategy’s freshman event, the sophomore showing at Tulsa promises even grander heights.

This weekend, we’ll see how it all goes down, with live coverage from the Tulsa Convention Center. Will Gladiator Beasts keep their death grip on the format? Will Teleport Dark Armed shatter their reign to take their first Championship? Or will a new strategy rise up to steal victory? Lightsworn, Gadgets, Dark Gaia, Monarchs, and many more decks put forth strong showings in Baltimore—and they didn’t go unnoticed.

If you might still make it to the event this weekend to compete, be sure to check out the official event listing for the basics. Then, hit up the website for Premier Tournament Organizer JDS Events for more details on side events, prizes, directions, and even accommodations. Can’t make it? We’ll be bringing you extended coverage live from the tournament floor all weekend long, so you won’t have to miss a minute of the action.

This Week on Metagame.com
I kicked off our week yesterday with a look at a card that I think is finally ready to make a big impact: The Transmigration Prophecy. A couple of weeks ago, I illustrated the importance of D.D. Crow to competitive strategies in most metagames. What I didn’t discuss in that article are the alternatives to Crow, and there’s simply no better contemporary than Transmigration. Click over to find out why.

Today, Jerome McHale sets his sights on a card that’s seen no buzz whatsoever since its release in Phantom Darkness: Dark Horus. With so many spell cards being played right now, it’s a good time to take another look at this surprisingly potent monster. The result is a deck that’s a defensive powerhouse in the current format. Turning your opponent’s aggressive actions into big counters and big offense is this deck’s specialty—definitely a must-read in my mind.

With Synchros seemingly dominating in tournaments across the globe, a vast number of rulings questions keep popping up. On Wednesday, Curtis Schultz is going to handle some of the most popular ones, prepping you for situations that would otherwise be pretty bewildering. Royal Oppression versus Stardust Dragon, Colossal Fighter versus Goyo Guardian, some tricky questions about Nurse Reficule the Fallen One, and more are all handled by Curtis this week.

In Thursday’s Apotheosis, I’ll tackle a promising deck theme, fixing up a strategy that’s finally come into its own: The Immortal Bushi. Previous Bushi decks had a tough time taking advantage of Bushi’s special summon effect—sure, he came back every turn, but what then? You couldn’t even tribute him. But this week, it’s Synchros to the rescue, and Bushi’s finally got a brand new bag!

Friday, Bryan Camareno discusses more details about misinformation and how you can make it work for you. It starts with analyzing your own play patterns to learn habits you might not even be aware of, then moves into deception and how to capitalize on it when you do successfully bluff your opponent. This is a great article for anybody looking to take his or her intellectual game up a few notches.

Jermol Jupiter defied the odds and won it all with Gladiator Beasts at Shonen Jump Championship Baltimore, leaving onsite attendees stunned. How did he do it? How did Jupiter overcome a matchup that seemed stacked in his opponent’s favor, a whopping three times on Day 2? We’ve had several theories here on Metagame.com over the past few weeks, but Matt Peddle’s got even more insight and some new observations this Saturday, as he examines Jupiter’s deck in The Champions.

Finally, Ryan Murphy’s got another off-the-wall Advanced format deck for you this week, and it’s one that I’ve already built myself. It’s called "Meow Mix," and it does stuff with Rescue Cat that shouldn’t even be legal. You really have to see this thing in action to believe it, and once you get it going it doesn’t disappoint.

That’s it for this week, but don’t forget to join us bright and early Saturday morning, as we bring you extended coverage live, from the tournament floor at Shonen Jump Championship Tulsa!
