This feature match pits two soon-to-be Worlds competitors from California against each other. They were playing it out for the prizes now, as both had already earned an invite to compete at Worlds. Bueno won the roll and decided to go first.
He did so with Confiscation, one of the most popular first turn plays in this Top 16 thus far. He chose Cyber Dragon to be discarded over Gravekeeper's Spy and four traps. He then set a monster and two spell or trap cards before passing, dodging the Trap Dustshoot in Corn's hand. Corn drew a card for his turn, set a monster face down, and set a pair of spell or trap cards. Bueno set another monster and passed to Corn. Corn flipped Gravekeeper's Spy and brought another one out in defense mode before tributing for Raiza the Storm Monarch. Raiza bounced the original monster to the top of Bueno's deck and attacked a face down Gravekeeper's Spy. The bounced card was now shuffled into the deck and when Corn passed Bueno drew a fresh card.
He set a third spell or trap card on his turn and passed to Corn. Corn destroyed the Gravekeeper's Spy with his Monarch and passed to Bueno, who set a fourth spell or trap. That was revealed to be Sakuretsu Armor when Raiza attacked, and he was destroyed. Bueno flipped Trap Dustshoot after the attack because Corn only had four cards in hand. He chose Mystic Tomato over Zaborg the Thunder Monarch to be sent back to the deck. Corn set a third spell or trap and passed to Bueno. Bueno made no move on his turn, and Corn smacked him with Gravekeeper's Spy.
Bueno drew his fourth card, and it was a monster! Corn flipped Trap Dustshoot to send it back to the deck during Bueno's draw phase. Bueno made no move once more and once more Gravekeeper's Spy got some damage in. Corn passed and Bueno drew Card Trooper, sent three monsters to the graveyard with its effect, and flipped Mystical Space Typhoon to destroy Sakuretsu Armor. Trooper took down the Spy and Corn was up. He set a spell or trap and passed to Bueno. Trooper pumped to 1900 and sent a Treeborn Frog to the graveyard in the process. He activated Pot of Avarice afterward, and drew into Machine Duplication. He played that on Card Trooper, used priority on one of his Troopers, and Corn flipped Torrential Tribute. Premature Burial brought one Card Trooper back, and Bueno attacked directly. Corn took it, opting to save his Scapegoat for a more useful circumstance. Bueno set a Trap Dustshoot as well, which he flipped when Corn drew.
Dekoichi the Battlechanted Locomotive was sent back to the deck, and Corn passed his turn. Bueno used Trooper's effect once more and attacked, but Corn flipped Scapegoat. He brought out four tokens, and one was destroyed by the Trooper. Bueno set a monster and passed to Corn. Corn played Brain Control targeting Card Trooper, but Bueno chained Call of the Haunted to target Cyber Phoenix! Corn had him though, and chained his own Mystical Space Typhoon to destroy the Call before it could resolve. At the end of the chain, Card Trooper belonged to Corn for the turn, and Bueno lost his Call. Corn played Pot of Avarice then and played the Raiza the Storm Monarch he drew, sending Bueno's monster to the top of the deck. Raiza connected for 2400, and Corn set a spell or trap before passing.
Bueno was up now and he played Cyber Dragon. He played Brain Control to take Corn's Raiza and tributed him for one of his own, sending Corn's spell or trap to the top of his deck. Two Sheep bit the dust and it was Corn's turn again. He set a spell or trap and thought for a long time before passing with two Monarchs in hand, bluffing that he might set them in the monster or spell or trap zone. Bueno brought back Treeborn Frog during his turn and used Raiza the Storm Monarch on Corn's face down Mirror Force once more. One Monarch took out a Sheep, and the other two attacked directly for game.
Corn was up first this time and he opened with a set spell or trap card. Bueno summoned Sangan and attacked directly. He set a spell or trap card, which was revealed to be Trap Dustshoot during Corn's draw phase. Corn chained Royal Decree though and got to keep his stuff. He summoned Cyber Dragon and Banisher of the Radiance and attacked with both monsters, taking Sangan out of play. He passed with no further moves.
Bueno was up now and he dropped Cyber Dragon. Jinzo came down afterward and attacked Banisher. Corn flashed Snatch Steal and another monster and Bueno scooped it up. "You came into that duel angry," said Bueno.
Bueno took first for the third game and opened with a set monster and a set spell or trap. Corn set a monster and a spell or trap as well before passing to Bueno. Bueno flipped Dekoichi the Battlechanted Locomotive and tributed it for Raiza the Storm Monarch, who bounced the monster to the top of Corn’s deck. Raiza attacked, Bueno set a spell or trap and passed. Corn used his turn to set two spell or traps and a monster before passing to Bueno, who summoned Card Trooper to start things off. He pumped Trooper three times and dropped Nobleman of Crossout to remove all Gravekeeper's Spys from play. Bueno attacked and the Raiza was destroyed by Ring of Destruction. Trooper got in for 1900 though, and Corn was up again.
He set a monster and passed, deciding not to attack with Banisher of the Radiance. Bueno pumped his Trooper to 1900, played Premature Burial on Raiza the Storm Monarch and attacked the face down Mystic Tomato with him. Corn searched another Tomato out, which was destroyed by the Trooper. This Tomato grabbed a Snipe Hunter. Bueno set another spell or trap before passing to Corn. He discarded Cyber Dragon in an attempt to destroy Raiza the Storm Monarch but missed. He discarded Pot of Avarice with the same target and hit it this time. Corn then summoned Banisher of the Radiance. He flipped Royal Decree, and when Bueno had no response Corn chained Call of the Haunted on Cyber Dragon. All three of his monsters attacked for exactly game!
Adam Corn moves on to play for the title of US National Champion!
