It’s that time again, everyone! After three long months of waiting, a new Yu-Gi-Oh! set is upon us. Duelists from all over the country are eager to participate in the upcoming Yu-Gi-Oh! Sneak Preview events. On the weekend of May 28, duelists will have the opportunity to get a look at the next Yu-Gi-Oh! set to be released in North America, The Lost Millennium. The set won’t officially be released until mid-June, but you can get your hands on these hot new cards a few weeks early at a Sneak Preview event near you!
I’m sure a lot of readers are saying to themselves, “Blah, blah, blah. We’ll go to the Sneak Preview already! Let’s get to the Metagame Sneak Peek!” I wouldn’t blame you for feeling like that. I felt that way for two straight weeks with the previews from the Vs. System’sGreen Lantern Corps expansion.
Today’s preview features a monster that you may have seen on the posters and advertisements for The Lost Millennium. Let’s take a look at the mechanical powerhouse “Ancient Gear Golem.”
Name: Ancient Gear Golem
Attribute: Earth
Type: Machine
Level: 8
ATK: 3000
DEF: 3000
Effect: This card cannot be Special Summoned. When this card attacks with an ATK that is higher than the DEF of a Defense Position monster, inflict the difference as Battle Damage to your opponent's Life Points. If this card attacks, your opponent cannot activate any spell or trap cards until the end of the damage step.
I won’t go into too much detail about when Ancient Gear Golem will appear on “Yu-Gi-Oh! GX,” a new animated series coming to television this fall. But I can safely say that you’ll see the Golem shortly after the start of the series. This monster is a real blast—it’s too bad I won’t be able to say the same about playing against someone who runs it.
Ancient Gear Golem will be explosive in any Sealed event. The card is pretty self-explanatory. It has an ATK rivaling that of Black Luster Soldier – Envoy of the Beginning, an effect that will strike fear into the hearts of Scapegoat and Spirit Reaper lovers everywhere, and a protective effect that will make your opponents fume as they look at their face-down copies of Mirror Force, Magic Cylinder, and Sakuretsu Armor. Ancient Gear Golem will be one of the most devastating cards you can play in a Sealed flight or Booster Draft.
But how will the card do in an Advanced format Constructed tournament? In that format, you’ll have access to some powerful support cards like Limiter Removal. If you activate this destructive quick-play spell while Ancient Gear Golem is attacking, you’ll probably reduce your opponent’s life points to 0!
That being said, Ancient Gear Golem has a weakness because it can’t be special summoned. However, there are many possible ways to get around that, one of which is the Strike Ninja and D. D. Scout Plane summoning engine. Perhaps The Lost Millennium will have a few cards that can help get out this mechanical monstrosity.
As for what those new cards might be, you’ll have to check out Metagame.com every day this week and the next to find out. You can also discover what’s so great about The Lost Millennium by attending a local Sneak Preview event. Duelists who participate in a Sneak Preview will receive an exclusive “Amazoness Chain Master” promotional card! This promo is a lot of fun and gives you another reason to attend these exciting events.
I’ll be back next week with another preview for all of you. And be sure to check back the Monday after that for a second look at some of The Lost Millennium’s cards.
